Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins tor this ARC! This book was very sweet, even when sometimes it felt a bit predictable and cliche. This book reads very simplistic, however considering it's a YA book that isn't a complaint on my part! Overall I think I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a cute dash of queer historical fiction and some folklore mixed in

This was an enjoyable read, think of it as baby's first danmei. It's not exactly danmei but if you have any friends you want to push in that direction I feel like this would be a good introduction. It's a good YA book with danmei vibes.

The characters were wonderful. It was so easy to fall in love with them, although sometimes I wanted to smack them too. I'm not even sure who my favorite character is, there are just so many wonderful choices. The story was cute, I enjoyed the romance between Zhen and Xian. Sometimes descriptions and lore would bog down a chapter, but things were interesting for the most part.

This is a heartbreakingly beautiful book.
