J’ai bien aimé en soit, mais il y a de ces longueurs… à deux doigts de tout abandonner quand ça me raconte en détail les tentures de Catherine de Médicis et la joyaux de la couronne d’Henri II pendant 35 pages

I enjoyed it just fine, and I did like some of the ideas. What brought the rating down a bit was that I found big chunks of it a little boring. Lots of verbal discussion among the characters sandwiched between scenes that I actually found interesting and emotional.

i got stuck in the middle when he was just narrating the things he was interested in like jewels and stuff. and i was stuck for a long time lol. but when the narrative was actually moving along this book was great. hard to read just because of when its from. but i loved the story and the ending was so good and yeah it's just obvious why it's a classic.

I have been really looking forward to this book. I only knew Dorian Grey from
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and wanted to know what this character was all about. I was not disappointed. The book is very well written and engaging (except for that one chapter where Dorian talks about all the things he took fancy in during the time skip. Oh how many pearls were described! *yawn*). What I can say is this: the magic portrait fascinates me and also the idea that it not only reflects aging but also moral decay.

this was better the second time around. i've not had such a book speak to me on the levels of beauty. what's the point if it's not beautiful? there are so many good lines in this; i need to pick up the physical book and do some note taking.
