It felt like a book that came from a place of such love, but it read a bit more like a memoir without much transferability than intended. Really neat to read about her life and childhood though!

The intro to this book is beautiful, hopeful, and the thread of love and humanity throughout this book is joyous. It’s hard to categorize what I was reading. A memoir, a history, a self-help?
I’ll have a lot of beautiful takeaways, but I also struggled to focus at other times. Still perhaps a book worth picking up

There are some interesting and inspiring chapters in the book, but too many sections come across as Wikipedia pages on various types of religious and cultural holidays, while others are preachy and unconvincing in their middle-class values.

This was an amazing book about for a secular person exploring many of the rituals and events that humans celebrate. She talks of the many traditions we can build and try to pass on and explores this through her own acedotes and her father Carl Sagans philosophy and studies. We're all trying to keep our ancestors alive through any means to feel closer and remember where we came from.
I did still have some qualms of the privilege and lack of more science compared to the spiritual and traditions on what humans celebrate. How "easy" some of the things we could do are a little overlooked for the sake of this being a feel good read. But overall it is that to give humans something inspirational to grasp onto, especially us secular folk.

I did not think I would en up y this short but personal exploration of rituals. But, the combo of her anecdotes and relationship with her famous father to the global survey of so many religions this was incredibly interesting. I would consider have my own book.
This book left me with so many feelings. It had me crying, laughing, smiling, and thinking a lot about life.
As someone who was raised secular, our family didn't have a lot of tradition. We had christmas in a secular way, but it was more stressful than fun, and as I've aged, there are no true traditions that have stood true. I have spent a lot of time wondering about my family history, as well as how I can build a life full of meaning and rituals that resonate with me. This book delivers. It provided me so much peace. Please read this book, as a secular person, or otherwise, it has a lot of value.
