Oh my that ending and the twist. Just had me all choked.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and the retelling of sleepy hollow. I found it had its own unique take which made it a breath of fresh air to read.
I love all the tropes this novel brings. Katrina MFC is fantastic, I loved her and how she overcame what life threw at her.
Alexander well I didn't think I would be smitten for him but here we are.
Overall the story kept me gripped and I would definitely recommend this novel!
Thanks again to the author and Book of Matches Media for having me on the tour!

A captivating gothic fantasy. The town of Sleepy Hollow is a safe haven for the supernatural thanks to the protection of the Headless Horseman. A yearly sacrifice is required for his continued service. When Katrina van Tassel is selected as the offering, she attempts to escape her fate. But it turns out that there is more at play in this quite town then meets the eye, leading Katrina to question everything she thought she knew.
I really enjoyed Hollowed. This gothic fantasy is perfect for spooky season! My favorite part of the story was Katrina's journey. She starts the story as an overlooked and marginalized part of the town (and her own family) but discovers she's a part of a mysterious prophesy. The 'chosen one' arc worked really well in this story. I also enjoyed the romance. There were so many good moments, complementing Katrina's journey rather than driving it.
The only thing that kept me from giving this book 5 stars was the ending. It wasn't a bad ending, but it was a little rushed for my taste. It made use of deus ex machina to tie everything together. Just a few small changes would have made it much stronger, but that is not to say it was a terrible ending.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a gothic romantic fantsay. Thank you to Jessica S. Taylor for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Now that is how you write a reimaged story!
I didn't need much convincing to read this since Sleepy Hollow is one of my absolute favorites, however this story is exceedingly unique and a breath of fresh air in the realm of retellings.
Take what you know about the classic tale and almost remove it from your memory.
This new version had the characters and some plot points that the reader will recognize, but after that, it is a new tale of its own. I well and truly enjoyed being captured in the pages.
A great read for the spooky time of the year, or all year round if you're like me and are spooky 365!

My problem is that this book suffered from being too long. It really started to drag towards the middle with nothing really happening. They kept going over the same topics and conversations over and over without any resolution. It also felt like the book was out of order. Like they should have focused on her training more before going into the town.
The scenes with her parents and Ciara felt underwhelming and anticlimactic. In contrast to the book that scene went to fast when it should have had more depth to it. I also don’t get why they left when Death appeared. They made it like she was going to destroy the town immediately but then took their time going back to save everyone.
This book had an interesting concept but the writing and execution lost me. Once they said “stop their evil plan” I already had one foot out of this book. The writing and storyline just progressively got worse. I wish I could have liked this more than I did but I was happy once this one was over.
NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS IN SLEEPY HOLLOW…

I absolutely LOVED Hollowed! I'm a huge fan of reimaginings and Sleepy Hollow is one of my all time favorite classics. I couldn't put this book down, I was hooked from beginning to end.
The standout character for me in this book was Alexander (aka the Dullahan or the Headless Horseman). He is a shadow gentleman! I loved how supportive and empathetic he was with Katrina. The concept of his magic was also very intriguing to me and I loved the progression of the love story. They develop a fierce love for each other and while that is not the main driving force for the plot, it creates a protectiveness between the two characters that leads to some steamy moments, flirting, and (of course) world saving.
Katrina was also a great character. The entire book is from her perspective and it was an amazing arc to read as she went from quiet, underestimated, and stuck underneath her parents' thumbs to confident and powerful in herself and her magic. She is also hard of hearing and I loved the representation of that throughout the book as well as how mental health was addressed.
Overall, there's elements of complex family dynamics, plot twists, found family, forced proximity, elemental magic, slow burn romance, and so much more. I thought the entire story was well paced and the plot twist near the end was one I did NOT see coming! Please be sure to check the trigger warnings before reading. If you enjoy standalone gothic fantasy, this one is for you.
Thank you so so so much to Jessica for allowing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review! All opinions are my own. :)
