Stupendo, sono rimasta attaccata alle pagine tutto il tempo, e Michael, Elisa e Linda mi sono davvero entrati nel cuore… speravo solo che la fine fosse un po’ più lunga, perché è come se fosse stata trascurata rispetto al resto della storia… è successo tutto così velocemente e avrei voluto un po’ di descrizione, dettagli e racconto in più. In ogni caso, super leggero e coinvolgente!

Prendete uno dei classici che più ho amato e più amo, quel capolavoro assoluto che è Orgoglio e pregiudizio, aggiungete una delle scrittrici più spumeggianti e divertenti del panorama letterario italiano, collocate il tutto in una location meravigliosa, e per me ben conosciuta come il Chianti (o il Chiantishire, come direbbero i protagonisti del romanzo della Austen nonchè i loro omologhi della Kingsley), innaffiate il tutto con un bel calice di Gallo nero (anche due, di Chianti non se ne beve mai abbastanza), shakerate ben bene ed otterette "Non è un paese per single".
Divertente fino a farti ridere a crepapelle, descrive in modo veritiero la realtà e le dinamiche di un paesino di campagna toscano...lo giuro, le feste di paese qua da noi sono proprio come descritte nel libro, le comari che cercano di accoppiare le figlie con gli scapoli che ritengono più ambiti esistono sul serio, i negozianti sanno sempre tutto di tutti e passano le giornate a spettegolare con i clienti, alla faccia della privacy!
I protagonisti li conosciamo, non sono una sorpresa – lui talmente orgoglioso da non riuscire neppure per sbaglio a pronunciare la parola "scusami", lei talmente piena di pregiudizi nei confronti degli altri da non rendersi conto di essere stata la prima a tagliarsi fuori e allontanarsi da tutti, l'amico innamorato e un pò credulone, la sorella dolce e un impaurita dall'amore e l'altra sorella stronza come non mai – ma li riscopriamo moderni, calati nei nostri giorni: ciò che ha reso Fitzwilliam Darcy così orgoglioso nell'Ottocento, è diverso da ciò che ha reso pieno di orgoglio Michael D'Arcy (Felicia, grazie di non averlo chiamato Fitzwilliam anche qua! È l'unica brutta del libro originale!), il background di Elisa è molto diverso da quello di Elizabeth ma in entrambi i casi i suoi pregiudizi sono gli stessi. Anche la trama di base è quella, gli eventi di rilievo ci sono, c'è persino l'amica del cuore che alla fine si accontenta di essere la seconda scelta dello spasimante respinto da Elisa (segno questo che, purtroppo ancora ai nostri giorni, talvolta le donne sono costrette a mettere la sicurezza economica davanti all'amore) ma sono perfettamente rivisitati e adattati alla nostra realtà. Infine, menzione d'onore per Jemma, Ashton, Charlotte e Sebastian, che compaiono in piccoli ruoli, poche scene ma determinanti! È un libro da 7 stelle, pecato non poterne dare più di 5!

Let's take one of the classic novels that I have loved and love the most, that absolute masterpiece that is Pride and Prejudice, let's add one of the most sparkling and fun writers in the Italian literary scene, let's place it all in a wonderful location well known to me as Chianti (or the Chiantishire, as the protagonists of Austen's novel as well as their Kingsley's counterparts would say), let's sprinkle everything with a nice glass of Black Rooster (even two, you never drink enough Chianti), shake well and get "Non è un Paese per single".
Funny to the point of making you laugh out loud, it truly describes the reality and dynamics of a Tuscan country village ... I swear it, the village festivals here are just as described in the book; the wives, trying to match the daughters with bachelors who believe they are more coveted, really exist; shopkeepers always know everything about everyone and spend their days gossiping with customers, in spite of privacy! We know the protagonists, they are not a surprise - he is so proud that he cannot even accidentally pronounce the word "sorry", she is so full of prejudices towards others that she does not realize that she was the first to cut herself off and walk away from everyone, the friend in love and a bit gullible, the sweet and scared of love sister, and the other sister as bitchy as ever - but we re-discover them as modern and dropped in our days: what made Fitzwilliam Darcy so proud in Nineteenth century, it's different from what made Michael D'Arcy proud (Felicia, thank you for not calling him Fitzwilliam here too! His name is the only ugly thing in the original book!), Elisa's background is very different from Elizabeth's, but in both cases her prejudices are the same. Even the basic plot is that, the important events are there, there is even the best friend who, at lasta, is satisfied with being the second choice of the suitor rejected by Elisa (a sign that, unfortunately still today, sometimes women are forced to put economic security before love) but they are perfectly revisited and adapted to our reality. Finally, honorable mention for Jemma, Ashton, Charlotte and Sebastian, who appear in small roles, few but decisive scenes! It is a 7-star book, sorry not to be able to give more than 5!
