This will be one of my favorite books for a long, long time. I loved the way it was written, loved the content it had, everything entertained me so much, I had a blast reading it. I read it at what would be considered super fast for my slow a**. I also believe I've learnt a lot from it.
Overall 10/10 would read again. I probably will, it was a very easy read. I already lent it to someone because they also found it interesting. Just great stuff. Plus, the specific edition I have, the book is just gorgeous. I've wanted to read The Art of War for a long time, and when I saw the beautiful book on the shelves at the bookstare I HAD to buy it.

Couldn't relate well to this, Don't think it's the best translation to pick up. Will need to try with a different interpreter / translator.
I only really found this book to be interesting from the perspective of ancient history—that, though much of this info seems like common-knowledge now, it was among the first collection of such info when originally written. Sun Tzu was one cutting-edge dude! (Sorry.) 6.5/10.
It was interesting to pick up such a historic little book. “Therefore just as water retains no constant shape, so in warfare there are no constant conditions.” I haven’t read much pertaining to war but it was laid out in a way that made it seem simple, and applicable to many situations.
“All warfare is based on deception.”
It changed my perspective on desperation and how that is one of the key factors in ensuring victory. I’d never really thought before how important spies were to success.
Overall this book demonstrated that there is a lot to consider in warfare and despite this, the wise warrior avoids battle.

Truth be told I read this from a list of most influential books of all time. Social media lead me to make the decision to try this read. For very small moments I got it but mostly the teachings went in one ear out the other. Perhaps if I read this in a different mindset or multiple times I could make better sense of the teachings. They seem simple yet complex. For example we can be given 4 simple ingredients to make a dish but there’s a 100 ways to produce the dish with those 4 ingredients. The same is said of war. Perhaps the teaching that I best understood was the connection of war and water. As water ebbs and flows so does war and as water moves differently every time over its surroundings so does war.
Fascinating!! I kept thinking that there are many facets of life that this book can be applied to. It’s so short too - definitely a reread!

I guess this book is either famous because it’s the first to value preparation or the first war strategy book? Basically comes down to preparation and knowing your surroundings. Everything else is a quote I’d expect some crypto-bro to have in the Instagram bio.
