This book had so much potential. I should start this off by saying I didn’t know it was going to have a sequel so when the story dragged out for 300 pages I was having a major “WTF am I reading” moment. I heard that this was like the hunger games with dark magic, well if that’s what you’re expecting then you’re in for a let down. The first 40% of the book is build up for the arena and fighting. In the arena literally nothing happens… like you just follow the characters through their inner thoughts and they barely fighting. There are too many alliances in this book, there are 7 “champions” why the fuck are they making alliances of 3 or more? It was like they were gearing up for Fortnite with the 4 man alliances.
This may have been my biggest gripe, imagine if the hunger games had an alliance of 18.

The characters are actually likeable but their decisions are really out of character. The antagonist is very obvious from the beginning which is probably the goal but when it is revealed in the end it’s not shocking.

The world building and magic system is really well done, if really kept me interested. My only issue here was that the characters didn’t really get tired from using their magic. That is fine but when fights are basically just made of offensive spells and shields it really gets old.

This book sets up for the sequel really well so I will probably read it now that I know what to expect.

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU WANT MAGICAL HUNGER GAMES

DID NOT FINISH

I was pretty certain this would be the outcome, but I had to try to get it off my shelf. DNF on page 18. After “I’m from SpellBC news…” I knew I was out.

All of Us Villains was a wild fast past ride, dark, and filled with morally gray characters. If you're a fan of The Hunger Games but wish it had more magic and even fewer heroes, this book definitely delivers. Every character truly lived up to the title, no one was completely good, and everyone had something sinister beneath the surface.

The story kicks off strong and kept me engaged, but around 65% in, things took a darker turn. While the tension amped up and the stakes got higher, there were moments where I felt a bit lost in the chaos like the plot started unraveling just as things got intense. The ending especially left me confused, unsure how I was supposed to feel or what to expect next.

Still, the concept is unique, and the atmosphere is haunting. It's a good read if you enjoy dark fantasy and twisted characters, but be prepared to sit with some unanswered questions by the end.

Stars: 4.1/5

Pretty good over all, very much hunger games meets goblet of fire. Very dark... as in lots of gore. I loved the character developments. Kinda upset that there were a lot of loose endings and the book only tied up one or two of them. Will be putting the 2nd book on my tbr.
