HOLY SHIT.

I didn't expect to love this as much as I did. Every character was so brilliantly malevolent, enticing, and sympathetic. My personal favorites are Alistair (surprise, surprise) and Isobel. Every scene they were in were the book's best to offer, and I couldn't deny their blazing chemistry on the third conversation.

It took me a while to warm up to Briony and Gavin (I'm honestly still hesitant on the latter) but by the end, it was difficult to hate anyone completely.

The one consistent thought that was running through my mind while reading is that this reminded me so much of The Atlas Six, but it has a more refined feel to it. I think people who were disappointed by TA6 will enjoy this one. The only drawback, I would say, is that the ending felt a bit rushed (especially the last 2 chapters). The book could've ended more strongly if it had 5 more chapters or so by the end.

My god, I couldn't put this book down. It's been a long while since that rang true for any book I've read, but with this one, I literally couldn't. I skipped class, didn't do my chores, any assignments just to finish this. It was honestly the best read to get me out of my reading slump.

the characters are not villains but they ARE morally grey; a lot of poorer reviews i’ve seen come from people who didn’t think they were quite as villainous as the title implies. BUT this is a book ft. working with people you’re supposed to kill, sibling relationships prioritized over all, characters who may not *love* the monstrous roles they’re supposed to play but still absolutely embrace them, magic, and even some dry humour <3

3.75 - told in multiple perspectives there is a lot happening in this book. The premise is a mix of hunger games and game of thrones. It ends on a cliffhanger so now I’m waiting to read the sequel.

I loved this one. it was reminiscent of the hunger games except the "players" aren't forced tributes of a brutalized nation, they're from powerful families who choose this (mostly)

Oh my god. This is amazing. It ends on a cliffhanger which I hate but jesus it is a great book. I've read Amanda Foody before and she's good but combined with this other author, it's brilliant. I love the characters, I love the setting, the magic. Yeah it's kind of the classic battle royale/hunger games type of premise but it just works so well. It's pretty brutal, especially towards the end and I really need to see who makes it out. I'm not sure who I'm rooting for, because all the character's motivations are so good. You have to love Alistair of course, but the others have such good stories too. I don't get why I haven't really heard about this book, I guess it did have a minor hype when it came out, but in my opinion it should have been so much bigger. Damn, now I need to get the second one asap.
