REALLY liked the art style in this book. It lined up very nicely with the story if that makes sense. Like the two complemented each other. I'm bad at explaining this oh god. Basically I really liked the story. It was funny and dark and interesting and I'm super interested to see where the story goes from here.
2.5 stars ⭐️ Objectively this book is good, but I don’t think it’s for me. The story follows a homeless teen who joins a school for assassins. Even though the title of the book is “Deadly Class” most of the story takes place within the school setting. But it’s only the first volume so maybe they’ll return to it? I expected more world building, and setting up the foundation of the story in this volume but it got right to the action which would be interesting if the characters weren’t so stereotypical. If you like a dark, action packed, gritty stories with sudden twists you’ll probably like this. Since I didn’t really like the characters or the world building I may not continue with this one.

I appreciate Rick Remender writing this book, especially since it's clearly personal to him. It captures high school cliques, insecurity, and the longing to belong impeccably. The art is also fantastic, not only the pencils and coloring, but also the expressive, edgy layouts and mixture of 2D and 3D perspective.
As far as the art, writing, and intimacy of this book go, it deserves more than three stars. However, it "felt" like a three-star book to me because it was three-star enjoyable for me. Given the seriousness of the title, I didn't expect it to be a romp, but it only intermittently tugged at my emotions, which is why I haven't given it more stars.

Very cool story. Deadly Class reminds me of ninja turtles, only with kids.
I'm not a big fan of the art. It's very rough and... ugly? But the story is good enough that I'll continue reading this for now.
