This is fun, but the Austen references kept taking me out of the story.

This book was like if Pride and Prejudice and Clue had a baby that was then lovingly raised by Miss Marple herself—and I devoured every delightful, murdery minute of it.

Beatrice Steele is the kind of heroine I love to root for: clever, socially awkward, and hilariously obsessed with true crime despite living in a society where fainting at the mention of blood is basically required. Swampshire is absurd in the best way—think bonnets, balls, and squelch holes—but Julia Seales leans fully into the satire and makes it all work. I was grinning the whole way through.

The locked-room murder mystery at the autumnal ball was perfectly executed. Every time I thought I’d cracked the case, the story twisted again. I suspected at least five different people, and I was wrong about all of them. The red herrings? Impeccable. The pacing? Spot-on.

What really made this one shine was the voice. The banter was witty and sharp, the narration poked fun at Regency tropes in the best way, and the entire cast of characters—from the stoic, disgraced detective to the giggly debutantes—was fun, quirky, and suspicious in just the right amounts. It had every element I love in a cozy mystery: creepy old manor, secret passageways, a potential ghost, and just the right amount of peril wrapped in tea and sarcasm.

If you’re in the mood for a funny, smart, murder-y romp through Regency society, A Most Agreeable Murder is a must-read.

I loved the main plot of this story, but there were some things that just made no sense. Is
her sister a werewolf? Or what? And why is that even in this book that has no other fantasy creatures?
There are some other plotlines that just don't like up as well, like the random letters throughout the story really added confusion because we didn't know those characters yet.

However, I LOVE the main plot and am now in love with Beatrice as well and can't wait to read the second book of this series when it comes out in June!
