I haven’t read a horror that had me spooked in a WHILE! I was actually afraid to read this in the dark. I truly enjoyed the huge buildup to finding out what this entity was. I can’t believe the ending though 😭😭 Blackwell (imo) did a great job at writing Native American culture in a respectful way. I’ll be reading the prequel soon!

Right away this book grips you in. I was terrified of walking around in the dark after just reading the epilogue. The descriptions are amazing and really make you feel like you’re at the cabin. The verbal descriptions were chilling! Some parts were repetitive; going to sleep and waking up to his wife sleep walking/talking, but nonetheless creepy as hell. The explanation of the monster took me a little bit to understand… a little far fetch for me. I like the meaning behind the title of the book too.

Overall, very easy book to read, 5/5 on the creepiness scale, and probably 3/5 on the plot/meat/meaning of the story

Two things that will always creep me out is doppelgangers and alternates, and I feel like this story really hit the nail on the head.
I remember laying in bed at night, reading this, and being absolutely creeped out, scared that I was going to start hearing the same thing.
4 instead of 5 bc the ending was a little weird, but I still love this.

Spoilers ahead:
So, here's the thing. The hollow man was obsessed with Faye bc she repressed the trauma of her brother being a still born when she was 5. I feel like, at 5, you wouldn't completely understand death, or it wouldn't have impacted you so much that you repressed it so hard that you forget it ever existed. When I was about 4, my mom had a miscarriage and I have absolutely no recollection of that at all. Of course, everyone is different, but the ending just didn't seem relatable to me.

Lost interest. It was very easy to read if that means anything to anyone.
