The chapter about adoption is not as well researched as I would have hoped and as per usual centres hopeful adoptive parents, openly advertising the practices by harmful for-profit adoption agencies and writing uncritically about most aspects of international adoption. If you are looking into adoption, especially in the US, I would recommend reading a lot of additional material written by adoptees.

The rest of the book was great and has brought me forward in my decision. So from that vantage point I would definitely recommend it.

Really fantastic book if you’re debating having children even in the slightest. Tons of great exercises to do solo or with a partner (if you have one). The book is written for ALL who may be considering a child, regardless of orientation, marital status or even if you're looking at having a baby as an individual.

Well organized and thoughtful book. I appreciated that the author didn’t put a value judgment on either choice, remaining child-free or having children. The exercises were balanced for different types of couples and different life paths. It was helpful to work through the exercises and to work through my feelings. Great book for decision making for an anxious person.

Great book. I've been childfree all my life but after recent unexpected circumstances most things in my life have been turned upside down and my mindset has changed rapidly on a lot of things. This book was an amazing tool to help figure out where my husband and I stand in regards to having a child. The exercises were very helpful and even though you feel silly doing them sometimes, they really help. I would have given this book five stars, but the random instances of the author going off about racism, homophobia, sexism, feminism, etc seemed very out of place. Really seems like something the editor should've cut.

This was a great resource for making a huge decision. The author is unbiased and helps you thoroughly vet both options. The exercises were useful, and I felt confident with my own choice after doing them.

Crisp, practical, focused, broad, even-handed. Full of advice and thought experiments, useful both for single and committed folks.

I know this book is older, but it's beyond helpful. It's like having a therapist you can work with at any hour for any length of time. I was able to get comfortable with my feelings and decision, which gave me so much peace.
