Disfruté el realismo y la honestidad del autor en reflejando en su niñez. Planeo leer el próximo libro. También estoy a un nivel intermedio y este libro fue un buen reto para mi. Hay nuevo vocabulario pero no tanto que fue tan difícil leer.

Read for my class on childhood and immigration, about a boy who struggles in the US school system as a Mexican child of migrant workers in California.

Great vignettes from a migrant worker's childhood. I wanted more! Young Francisco has a winning voice, a mix of innocence and realism and optimism. For once, the Spanish sprinkled in felt just right and not awkwardly educational. Ditto on the social justice themes. Not heavy handed, but I LOVE the way it ends with pointed irony and not a happily ever after.

The Circuit, Breaking Through, Reaching Out by Francisco Jimenez
All three books are excellent and the story is quite interesting. I only wish it continued onward to his years at graduate school. I also wish this story could still happen today, I am skeptical that the school systems, especially in California could help a student succeed as much as Francisco Jimenez was helped, it all seems a lot harder now.

I really liked seeing what it is like to live as an illegal Mexican immigrant and how little has change in the many years that Mexicans have been coming to the USA to work
