“… and it’s seems like for some people, making friends is like finding a shirt or a hat: you just figure out what color you want, see if it fits, and then take it home and hope everyone likes it and you.”

Charlie is just a seventeen going on eighteen year old girl who has been dealt a rough hand at life. She’s lost everything and everyone, she’s lived on the streets and in a sex house. What else could possibly go wrong?

This story is very emotional and tragic. The story was well written and I loved that the author added a note in the back explaining that she also dealt with self harm. Self harm is a topic that is so shut down and looked down on the victims of it are afraid to ask for help mainly because they felt they had no one so that’s why they start.

If you or someone you know self harms there are resources to help.

This is Charlotte Davis’ deeply moving story of her journey back from the edge. This was an incredibly beautiful story I utterly adored reading so much I didn’t want to stop because it made me feel like I was in Charlie’s head which was comforting in a unique way and it felt safe - for a girl in pieces. I found this book at just the right time and reaching the end was emotional but very fulfilling. The author writes in a raw but tender way, showing you the full extent of Charlie’s struggles and the impact it has on her recovery and her as a person. I liked the structure of how the story was written including the discussion and activities at the end of the book which I found very useful. Charlie’s story really resonated with me and I felt connected to her which is why at times I found it challenging to read in a pleasant way though as I felt so emotionally in tune with it. This story is an embodiment of hope for those that feel drowned by what feels like the everlasting darkness. I urge you to pick up this powerful novel, (albeit with caution - check TWs) immerse yourself into the story of the admirable Charlie Davis and ‘Go be absolutely, positively, fucking angelic.’

!PLEASE READ TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE READING THIS BOOK!

Wow. I really enjoyed this book, the way it's written is just beautiful and it's littered with words and phrases that have so much more meaning behind them than what the eye can see. It's very triggering, so if you're in a bad place mentally maybe put off reading this for a while until you feel like you've come out of the dark, if I was in a bad place mentally I just know I would have unfortunately relapsed. It's a great book to read if you've ever felt lonely in your life and it helped me to understand and put into words things I didn't know how to say or describe. I related to the main character, Charlie, a lot; not only do we share the same first name but we share a couple other things and I felt a really close connection to her - I want to give her the biggest hug in the world :( The only negative thing I will say though is that I feel as though in some places the story dragged on a bit and there are some things which could have been cut out, the words used to depict certain thoughts and feelings and actions are very harsh - which does add to the experience of reading this book.
