For what it is, it's probably very good. I do take issue with a book about Emotional Intelligence solely through the lens of being a more productive worker.
I read it around 5 years ago and I remember it having a major impact on me.
Self-help books are my least favorite genre of books, but I had to read this one for my class. Surprisingly, it was addictive and I ended up loving it. It doesn't necessarily advises you what you should do, like most self-help books, but what you should know and be aware of. I was pulled in mainly because of its scientific explanation behind every piece of information provided. It also shattered my misconception about what Emotional Intelligence actually is. With a brief assessment, it helped me figure out my own scores in the four components of EI, which was the most interesting part of the book.
I believe a lot of the people need to read and learn about this. Lack of Emotional Intelligence is what drives relationships sour despite good intentions and feelings.

I have different feelings about this book. Personally, I didn't enjoyed it because it didn't taught me anything new. On the test I had score of 93, and all the examples of "how should" behaviours were just like I already react. I think that is because previously I read many books on similar subjects and when this book came on turn, it was nothing special.
On the other side, if this is your first book on similar subject, then it can be helpful and teach you I believe.

Great book. I've read this three times.
Learn something new each time.
4 Skills:
1. Self-Awareness
2. Self-Management
3. Social Awareness
4. Relationship Management

I don't think this book is as impactful as the writer would have hoped. If you ask me in a few months what I remember from the book, I'll probably be like, "Is that the one where I had to pay for the quiz? ...the one who had a whole chapter about 'Counting to Ten'?"
If you are serious about moving up the corporate ladder or getting to the top of some group or organization—you may find it beneficial. Though, you will likely have to pull out this book weekly, put it into practice, and stay mindful of its tips.
Re-visiting the book seems necessary to keep up with the choppy, sometimes overly simple, tips and techniques they provide. Example: "Talk to someone you perceive as an EQ expert" ...seems like a "well, duh" tip and, honestly, kind of a cop-out when it comes to advice.
It just wasn't that interesting of a read for me to go back to it more than once.

This book surprised me! I thought it would only be useful in the business world but I realized all the points can be useful in any type of relationship.
A really succinct and useful guide that defines what emotional intelligence is, how to recognize where you are deficient, and practices to implement to improve in all areas of emotional intelligence. Very digestible and useful information that I am going to immediately put into practice.
