This book is a thoughtful and approachable guide to understanding autism. For someone new to the topic, it offers meaningful insights and practical advice. While it didn’t feel groundbreaking for someone with more experience, it did offer a few helpful ideas on how one can better connect with and support autistic individuals. No matter your role, this book is a great reminder to lead with empathy and see the person, not just the diagnosis.

It's a good book, especially with it's focus on normalizing and pushing back against stigma, but definitely for an audience of parents, rather than adults.

Read by author who does an excellent job. A foundational book for anyone wanting to understand neurodivergence (their own or others’) better.

It was such a relief to read this explanation of the behavior of people with autism. Like me, Prizant believes that we need to ask WHY a person is behaving as he does, and Prizant provides some interesting explanations for "typical" autistic behaviors that make a lot of sense. I hope this book is read by everyone touched by autism!

Best for parents or people working with children. Little to no content on adults or late diagnosis.
A bit outdated but still very useful and written in accessible language.

Good to know how modern psychologists think about autism, but this was still mostly for parents of autistic children while I want more books for autistic adults
