indy was such a sweet and pure and kind soul and i felt a bit of my self reflected in her. like there was so many niche things about me and myself that was central to her it was kind of weird to read it in a book. only one other character has me felt that way before.
ryan shay…sir……..i lurv u. such a traumatic experience to live through, but i’m glad he came out healed. and lest we forget that this man…….oh my god. so hot. mmmm basketballl yeah consider me a fan bye!

it was all the great parts about any romance novel tied up neatly in a pretty lil bow
the epilogue was one of the best I've read in any romance book
4.75 / 5 stars
reasons why it isn't a 5/5 for me:
- the amount of tropes are extremely on the face, it felt like I was being spoonfed it all... would've definitely preferred some subtlety on that aspect
- this is on me (not the author!!!) , but Indy constantly thinking about kids was slightly giving me the ick
- 3rd act conflict was making me eyeroll because it felt forced
come on man NAVY??? SERIOUSLY ???
conclusion : Ryan Shay is The Best book boyfriend period 🧎🏻♀️

All in all, it was a pretty standard romance, predictable but not in a bad way. There were some really cute moments and I liked how it didn’t take 500 pages for them to realize their feelings (aka not too much of a slow burn).
The main issue was the writing felt juvenile and simplistic, especially in the beginning. The author also tried to make the characters multidimensional but it felt more like an afterthought that was stated rather than shown. There was also this weird thing where all of the « conflicts » were pretty much just the characters refusing to speak to each other. They weren’t ever really mad, just wouldn’t communicate to the other person because they wanted to wait? Several days? And not explain that they wanted to do that? It just seemed like trying to find conflict where there wasn’t anything.
I hadn’t read the first book in the series, and I don’t think it’s necessary to.
