Fanny is a dear — Edmund is an idiot.

Mi parte favorita es cuando la prima se cae, pesada.

4.5 - I'm rounding up the stars because it's Jane Austen. It doesn't surpass Emma or Pride and Prejudice for me because the romance is a bit of a let-down, but I love Fanny. Extroverted, charming heroines may be more fun to read about, but I relate much more to an introvert and am inspired by Fanny's virtue and strength despite her childhood circumstances and constant little humiliations. Mrs. Norris is such a satisfying villain, too.

The big fat novel I needed. Well defined characters. Fanny Price is not my favorite: too quiet, too shy, too dependent. But the fact that she annoyed me proved how real she seemed. Interesting point made in the intro about how how Mary Crawford at first seems more like the typical Austen heroine, but in the end she's Elizabeth Bennett gone bad.
