3 ⭐️ bc i kinda wish the FMC here was a bit more *bite* than *bend to will*. i enjoyed the MMC but kinda woulda preferred for him to suffer a little.

I read this as a part of the Filthy Elites Anthology.
gave the show “You” vibes which i didnt mind but the climax was wild and not sure if i mean that in a good way or not. it fit the story but wouldnt fit any other story
Dare isn't morally grey at all. He is simply the darkest black you can find, and I loved it. This was a re read for me and I'm so glad that I don't feel any different than when i read it initially. This was a manipulative, toxic, enemies to lovers. If you're looking for groveling or a H who feels bad about what he does to get his way, you won't find that here.
Whenever I go into a Sam Mariano book, I know that I am going to partake in a book that tests and pushes my comfort zone. Well, she did managed to that and more.
On the surface we get your classic good girl meets bad boy but of course there's a twist. Our hero, Dare, may seem tamer than other SM heroes but once we really get to know him he is one possessive, obsessive, depraved, psychopathic individual. Your classic SM hero. The lengths this man will go to get what he wants. I'm just saying, when the warning in the beginning of the book tells you that he is not a nice guy and is quite possibly the villain of the story, take that note seriously.
Aubrey was just the sweetest and was the victim of a revenge ploy masterminded by someone who is very upset at her for the most ridiculous reasons. She has so much on her plate with work, school and a sick mother so she's really living one day at a time. It's not surprising that she is instantly charmed by Dare and his attentiveness. He is supportive of her and cares for her. He's perfect but of course, that comes with a price. The price of her sanity perhaps since he is incredibly intense and crazy! I think I went a little crazy right alone with them.
On a sidenote, Sam Mariano if you are reading this, please write a book for Hannah Dupont. I was surprised by how much I grew to love her character. She is so sweet and too pure for for this world which I think would pair well with a hero that would give her hell. I want someone to love her the way she deserves. However that may be.
Anyway, it's not a surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. SM has a way of pushing your limits and take you somewhere you never thought you'd go and that's what I love about her writing. Everything is unexpected and twisted.

I don't even know what to say. The Roller Coaster of WTF that I went through with this book.... totally worth the sleep deprivation. When I say I could not put this down..... mmmm. It's spicy, it's toxic, and it's not a happily ever after like you'd expect.
This is my second Mariano book. I can’t even describe this book fully but she definitely took me on a rollercoaster. It’s next level toxic from untouchable
