Deadly Silence

Rebecca Zanetti

3.69 AVERAGE

Both MCs really enjoyed each other but they were both so afraid to be vulnerable and I loved watching them both unbend a bit and actually get into a relationship that they had to find out if it was worth it. Also - nothing like a little low-key threat of prison and a murderous plot to force you together!

Stars: Four Stars
Steam: Level 3.5 - steamy and dominant in bed play
Tropes: forced proximity, hook up to HEA, bodyguard
For Fans Of: romance movies like Speed or Bodyguard
Subgenre: suspense
CW/ TW: violence, bloodshed, mentions of parental death and abandonment, depictions of child abuse

The male main character was not my favorite. He tends to be like "you do it my way or you do it my way..."
I liked the kid, Greg. Every time there was a scene with him, is dialogue always made me think of him as someone older than he was and if it wasn't the other characters calling him a kid I wouldn't remember. He was really smart and loyal. My favorite character.
Zara was a strong and smart female character. I liked that she went against Ryker when he was behaving like a caveman, but she sometimes would be easily persuaded. She had a good heart and was kind, I loved her relationship with Greg and how they were protective of each other.
Found it really funny that everyone kept telling Zara that she could do better than Ryker, right in front of his face. Most of the time I agreed with those people.

This is a great new series, which interconnects with the Sin Brothers series brilliantly.

These Blood Brothers don't share blood in the typical sense but having met each other whilst they were children at an orphanage (and having some weirda&& experiments done on them) these three brothers are closer than kin. They may be hiding out from their long-time nemesis but they are doing good, the only way they know how, whilst searching for their own answers.

They have the BEST named PI company ever! Now relocated to rural Wyoming and on the trail of a serial killer they've managed to put down roots without thinking about it.

Zara loves her life in Cisco, Wyoming. She's a Paralegal but she has found herself on the wrong side of her friend's divorce case. How can she aid her friend without opening herself to breaking her oath of office?

Ryker has been seeing Zara as FWB for a while now. But he's slowly coming to the realisation that she means much more to him. He just doesn't want to label it and she seems to be even more cagey about taking things to the next level than him!

Heath, Ryker and Denveraren't just damn good investigators - they all have something a little extra, something that gives them the edge. Something that Zara may just need as danger seems to be circling her and she can't see a way out.

Brilliant read! I loved the blend of romantic suspense and scifi/scientific romance elements. Ryker tries too hard to be the emotionless alpha and fails miserably. He may not be gushy and so forth but his actions speak louder than words and they say A LOT. Heath and Denver - well they're just all sorts of yummy goodness and I can't wait to find out more. Greg - OMG he is such a precocious kid. ut after what he's been through he's not really been a kid in a long time, if ever.

Loved the way that the Sin Brothers and Blood Brothers dovetail together, with all the "bloodlines" mixing up.

Well, if you're looking for a book with an uber-alpha hero with a heart of gold and the heroine he puts on a pedestal, this fits the bill. Throw in some genetic engineering that gives him and his rag-tag team of brothers a little something extra and multiple suspense storylines, too, and you've got this book in a nutshell. This series is a follow-on to Zanetti's Sin Brother's series. You don't have to read the Sin Brother's series to start this one, but there are definitely characters and their storylines that cross-over. So, it may add to your overall appreciation, if this is the type of book you would appreciate. I haven't decided if I will continue with the series. It's getting a little one note, but there is a thread tying them altogether. I need to decide if the resolution to that thread is worth continuing with the series.

MY THOUGHTS⇣

Full Disclosure: I wouldn't have even tried this series if it weren't for the many readers who love it...so, maybe, don't take my feelings on it too seriously...

First off, I did not care for the voice of the narrator...and she voiced the male lead of the story to further my dislike. That, unfortunately, set the tone for the whole book. Secondly, I don't know if Romantic Suspense is for me...it comes off too cheesy and unbelievable. I don't know if it's the narrator or just the genre itself???

I liked the genetically enhanced Hero and his "brothers" aspect, even if it is a little sexist, I mean, I think they were created by some deranged sex-starved woman...so maybe, that explains why they are all men. As the story progressed it basically went from bad to worse, there were too many elements at play here...and I couldn't follow them all. The clincher for me, though...was the hour-long sex scenes...Ugh!

description

Often when I read a new author, I don’t remember how I came across the author. Unless it’s an ARC through Net Galley, usually I’m not good at remembering where I heard about a book. For once, I remember! I heard about this author through another author. Nicole Edwards recommended this author in one of her newsletters. The reason this is somewhat important is if I like a recommendation from someone I know to trust them next time I see them recommend something. Anyway, I really enjoyed this book so will definitely be putting more of Nicole Edwards’ suggestions on my TBR list!

This story pulled me in from the very beginning. I was intrigued by Ryker and his brothers and wanted to know more about what happened to them as kids. Ryker as an adult is also intriguing, but for all new reasons. He can sure get a girl’s pulse racing! Rough, tough, handsome, built with a sweetness he tries to keep hidden. His brothers know he’s smitten since he’s let Zara see that side of him.

Zara is a strong and independent woman with a very soft heart. Maybe too soft. She cares about those around her and wants to make everyone’s life better. Sometimes she cares a bit too much and lets her heart overtake her head. But that’s part of what makes her so wonderful.

There is almost non-stop action in this story and it’s really hard to get a handle on who’s in trouble and what the source of that trouble truly is, so it kept me on the edge of my seat. Which is great. Unfortunately, my picky brain noticed the timeline/continuity issues. And as always, when they’d crop up it would take me out of the story while my brain ticked back to ponder if I was remembering things incorrectly.

Not my favorite RZ book. Good not great. I love RZ books because of her smart & powerful heroines & how they interact with her alpha heroes. Zara is kind of an idiot. And tbh Ryker isn't that likable either. Still engaging and entertaining, and a fun continuation of the Sin Bros. story.

My first Rebecca Zanetti book won't be my last.
