A collection of fantasy fables following the legendary “White Wolf” Witcher. These short stories illustrate the monstrous nature of men, confusing understandings of morality, and human complexity.
“The Voice of Reason” is a 10-min monologue masterpiece!!

i read this after starting the tv series, but before playing any of the games. i was enthralled at first but by the end, i wished it would hurry up and be done. perhaps that is an effect of me reading in bed - i was tired - but i feel as though if i were more engaged then it wouldn’t have seemed to drag. probably just my fault....when i read it during the day it was enjoyable.

one thing i really liked was the showing not telling. there were lots of events that were only just implied, not explicitly told, and to me that was masterful. i wish i read more books like this and not “she picked up the brush. she combed her hair. she styled her hair up and looked in the mirror.”

the show is pretty faithful!

will definitely read the next book.

I read this cause i love the show, although it is very different. Much more of an obvious Grimm’s fairytale influence and it is set up as almost little “monster a week” chapters — heavy prequel vibes. i can see how this would progress to have much more thorough character depth but for this first book it didn’t hugely capture my attention nor did i find the characters as compelling, the lack of real plot throughout made me less compelled to continue.
i may continue the series but mostly just on the knowledge of what the world and characters from the show.

Wow. Just wow. I now understand why the Witcher is as loved as it is. The short adventures that Geralt encounters, the characters he meets, the LORE. The lore of this world is so beautiful and complex, I just want to soak it all in. This book is a complication of short stories that Geralt has experienced and characters he’s met in order to help readers better understand the world for the main series. I HIGHLY recommend this book to any fantasy lover. 11/10!!

Relectura, está vez a paso lento se disfruta mejor de las aventuras del brujo. La única obra de fantasía que ha logrado gustarme.

I really enjoyed the short story nature of this book and can’t wait to see how the whole tale weaves together in the end. The characters are compelling, but sometimes I found myself getting bored of the western fairytale retellings. Dandelion makes the entire book worthwhile, however.

it certainly wasn't bad! the stories were pretty interesting and i enjoyed getting to know the characters. but because it is just a compilation of short stories, it was sort of boring. i think I'd have enjoyed this more if I was already into the series, but starting with this book first is a bit of a drag. i love geralt though, what a diva
