This book was AMAZING. Second book syndrome was not the case for Kase and Malin. They are my favorite LJ Andrews couple so far. I can’t wait to see how the rest of their story unfolds!

Being the fifth book of a series, this review/rec contains spoilers for the previous books
Dedicated to those who love the morally grey love interest. Because you know if someone hurts you and your love finds out… Run.
Daaaaaaaamn this was epic 🖤🗡️
This fifth book picks up right where we left off: in the aftermath of the Masque av Aska 🎭 and things definitely didn’t go as planned…
The Guild of Kryv and Malin must double their cunning and ruthlessness in order to reunite with the Nightrender, but will he be the same as he was before ?
🐦⬛ Vikings x Alvers
✨ Lore and unique magic system
✌🏻 Dual POV
🩸 Morally grey characters
🖤 Memory loss
⚡️ Vengeful FMC x vicious MMC
🔥 Tension, slow burn
💀 “I will burn this world to get you back”
🫶🏻 Found family of misfits
”Sometimes there are things only our hearts remember”.
A few reasons to read it :
1. The world-building and lore are enriched once again wooop woooop 🙌🏻✨ more backstory, more explanations on the Alvers’ different kinds of magic and I was in awe the whole time 👏🏻
2. The story is a whirlwind of plots, twists and turns, threats, schemes and intrigues ⚔️ I thought I was holding on for dear life in the previous books but this one unlocked once again a whole new level🔥
3. Both FMC and MMC are morally grey and soooo badass 💀🗡️ these two know how to keep us entertained : banter, tension, big declarations, etc.
4. Malin is cunning, fierce and feisty. She is a whirlwind of emotions and wears them on her face for everyone to see. She is simply authentic. She’s willing to put herself at risk if it means saving her people from danger ✨
5. Kase is the shadow daddy of the series. He is dark and vicious, terrifying and lethal. He is perfection. He’s struggling and tries to reach the truth buried in his heart when his head is telling things that don’t sit right with him 🖤
6. The double POV allows us to dive into Kase and Malin’s memories and emotions. And it’s so interesting to jump between the two because we really see the differences between what they see-perceive and what’s really happening in the other’s mind. Even more with his memory loss 😶🌫️
7. All the side characters are priceless 🫶🏻 the Guild of Kryv is a bunch of wild teddy bears 🧸❤️
8. This ending will make you gasp and yell a big YAAAAAAAAAASSSSSS from the depths of your soul 🤩
”Be wicked, be a brute, but be mine.”

I did it again. This review will be about all 3 books that are Kase's and Malin's story.
Of the two couples, thus far, I think I like Kase and Malin's love story best. Pretty sure it's the tropes I like better and the story was better written for their story. I do think the actual plot is better in Elise and Valen's story, though. Maybe it's because of the end in their story is a really happy conclusion and I tend to gravitate towards those.
SPOILERS AHEAD for books 4-6
Kase and Malin's final book gets kind of LONG because the North shows up and we have some more plot for Valen in this book, which I didn't realize that I needed a resolution for and I'm really happy it was addressed in this book! It also sets up the south and it mentions the Ever kingdom... Hmmm...Haven't read those, but, of course, know of them.
First book I really enjoyed since it encompasses their main romance with an upsetting ending. I mean, it is a childhood friends, second chance romance and I enjoyed how it unfolded. You're really learning about Kase and Malin and their history and what they've done since apart from each other. Kase I think is more my type of MMC than Valen. Don't get me wrong, I like Valen, but Kase has a dark edge to him from what happened to him when he was younger and...the broody ones always get me! I liked Malin too and thought she was a good fit for Kase. I do think their reconciliation was a little fast (it was like zero time passed for them, but also kind of made sense). Malin, like Elise, is strong and will get her hands dirty to save those she loves and protects.
Book two was one of the harder books because I don't like main characters separated and I was surprised how long Kase and Malin are separated in this book! I didn't expect Andrews to take Kase's memories for most of the book! But I also kind of loved it because there's nothing like someone who does not mind-remember he loves someone, but his soul remembers it.
I thought seeing Kase's and Malin's magic was interesting too. With Elise human, we really only get Valen. In this case, it was neat to see their magics merge after the vow and how they worked together. Not to mention the prophecies that everyone just happens to remember right now!
The last book has SO MUCH going on with it. I thought book 3 had a lot of characters, but this one gets even bigger as we're expanding the cast as we work our way through the prophecy. The end worked for me, but because it's the sitting of a new queen (and king), it rings a little like Elise and Valen's end, but without the family component. Nothing wrong with it at all, just didn't find it super unique.

With each successive book I read in this series, the deeper my realization grows that I am going to feel completely lost once I finish reading them.
L. J. Andrews has a way of ensnaring you into the web of her stories, inextricably tangling around your heart.
