I have read at least one other Katherine Center book which I thought was...fine. This book was really good. I definitely have a lot in common with the main character and could empathize with the worries that come with a school setting, so even though this deals with some hard themes like PTSD and school safety, I felt like it was really well done. The story was balanced between realistic honesty of the challenges the characters faced and the development of the characters' relationship and support for each other. I definitely want to read more of Center's books in this world. Also, the romance didn't feel central to the story somehow even though it is a big part of the story--instead the focus is on the individual characters' development.

A new to me author, I was attracted purely by the cover and I wasn't disappointed.

Quirky, loveable main characters in a too good to be true charming small town/school community.  Nobody for a minute believes that people would behave that way in real life but if you can suspend belief and enjoy the ride this is a fun, lighthearted story of second chances, hope, joy and love.

I really enjoyed it, but parts of it are pretty forgettable. I loved the fact that we got to see the effects of
gun violence from the perspective of a man who was affected and then went back into school
. At first, I really hated the hero but the character development and more about his backstory changed my mind. l loved that they both thought that
the other wasn't into them at their old school when they were both obsessed with each other
. Most of the minor characters were well developed and all of them helped the plot move forward. However, I wish I knew more about Babette, the heroine's best friend, and Babette's daughter. The book mainly focuses on them in relation to the heroine's problems and sometimes I wish we had a little more from the others. It isn't a dealbreaker.

I should probably add more later, but I am not feeling it right now.
