Nothing like any fantasy series I've ever experienced before. This series had a very clear vision, and a perfectly bittersweet ending to drive home the overarching point. It was also a completely new take on a fantasy realm, as is only revealed in the second book. Well done.
After thinking more I don't think it could have ended and differently. Kelsey had to give up her whole life and history for the Better Life. This way, we could truly feel and understand the loss and pain. If had just been written for us and not experienced with the character it would have lacked emotional punch.

I have been really enjoying my time reading this series. It was never going to be a new favourite but it certainly had the potential to stick the landing. As you can see from my rating... it did not.
This book instead of answering all the questions we've been accumulating throughout the series, it chose to add more into the mix. This book got very convoluted and it was just trying to do too many things. It had too many loose ends and by the conclusion of the series it coped out of answering any.
The characters, as the story got more complex began to lose any realism. With their actions clearly being driven by where the author wanted the plot to go instead of what seemed organic for what we know of them.
This book actually managed to keep consistency with the writing and pacing, making me still be invested and compelled to read until the last 20% when I wanted to yeet it out of a window.
Sadly the wonderful world building we had seen were a) all for naught, and b) thrown out of the window when things began to get more convoluted. The magic was entirely there for plot convenience at this point as well.
Overall, I'm really disappointed in this series. I may as well have not read the first two books.

3.5 maybe? really don't know how i feel about that ending
This is the third of the trilogy, and the one I had the hardest time getting through. Partly that was because I couldn't remember the second one well enough to follow the beginning of this one. Partly it was because I didn't really care that much for the story. I'm not convinced the ending doesn't totally undermine the whole trilogy. Odd and unexpected.
I found it rather boring. Struggled to finish it. The ending is surprising but I found nothing too special in it. Slovenian translation is a disaster - as if the translator used Google Translate in some parts, which made the whole book really hard to read.
Ich fand die gesamte Trilogie ziemlich gut und lesenswert. Dieser dritte Band ist ein würdiger Abschluss, auch wenn ich finde, das die Autorin es sich am Ende ein klein wenig einfach gemacht hat. Und es irgendwie kitschig wurde, was nicht so richtig zum Rest der Geschichte passte.
Ansonsten hab ich aber eigentlich nicht viel zu meckern. Mir gefiel vor allem das man Kelseas Veränderungen wirklich mit erlebt. Man merkt nach und nach wie die Ereignisse und ihre Aufgaben sie zu dem Menschen gemacht haben, der sie am Ende ist. Sie wird von einem passiven jungen Mädchen zu einer Frau, die selbst bestimmte Entscheidungen trifft. Die Verantwortung für ihre Handlungen übernimmt.
"Verbannt" passt ehrlich gesagt als deutscher Titel nicht so wirklich. Es geht nicht um eine Verbannung, sondern um Kelseas Weg zurück nach Tearling um ihr Volk zu retten und das Königreich vor dem Untergang zu bewahren. Sie bleibt die eher sperrige Figur, die sie von Anfang an war. Aber es gefiel mir, das die Autorin die Handlung ganz auf sie fokussiert und weg geht von irgendwelchen romantischen Verwicklungen, die auch schon vorher nicht so ganz zur Geschichte gepasst hatten. Anderen Figuren hat sie meiner Meinung nach aber etwas zu wenig Raum gelassen. Der Fetch, den sie immer wieder so groß aufgebaut hat, kam wieder zu kurz. Schade, denn gerade seine Figur hatte meiner Meinung nach viel Potential. Das hat sie irgendwie verschwendet...
Mir persönlich hat der Band aber insgesamt als Ende gut gefallen, wie gesagt, etwas weniger Pathos und Kitsch wäre besser gewesen. Alles in allem bin ich aber zufrieden und würde zumindest die Trilogie (es gibt nämlich noch ein Prequel, das ich aber ignorieren werde) jederzeit weiter empfehlen.
