i was looking for some decluttering tips and found this book. well. everything of any value and/or interest from it could be put into a small article, it would work alright as an article. as a book though, it’s pretty pointless, i’d say. the self help parts, advice and all that, weren’t useful or original enough to mark this book good in that category, and the little stories/memories parts were… also really basic? plus they lacked any finesse in terms of writing style whatsoever, it’s just written like it’s a twitter thread, too poppy and eloquent-less. some sections were of course more useful than others, i really liked this quote: ‘you can enjoy things without owning them’ - however simple, it’s not the basest base of an idea, and put quite well, too. otherwise, i’m afraid, there’s not much else to it. i read it in an hour, and i read it for free, so it’s completely fine, however it’s not worth it at all to buy this book. sorry… again i feel like a horrible person. this is at least twice better than the magic shop book… anyway yeah

My favorite idea is the one of the the Throw Away Box. Her little anecdotes are also very sweet.

Gentler than I need in a book like this. But Ms Magnusson is absolutely delightful, and the gentle humor is fantastic for a book on the subject of DEATH CLEANING.

'The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning: How to Free Yourself and your Family from a Lifetime of Clutter' by Margareta Magnusson is a short book about a kind of dark subject. It is handled with charm and gentleness.

The author, who is aged somewhere between 80 and 100, proposes that we all die and we shouldn't leave our mess behind for the next generation. In a practical approach that made me smile, the author talks about what to keep, what to toss and what to give away, perhaps to your children or someone else who might appreciate it. Emphasis is made that things given away should be actually wanted by the recipient.

The author writes with such warmth about a topic that can be uncomfortable. There is a level of humor that is completely appropriate for the book. I'm glad I got to read this ebook.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Scribner and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
