such a compelling story and setting, inspired by an equally important history and topic that’s sadly still haunting our current society.

i picked it up because of marjorie’s backstory and inspiration on creating maika, but the character designs, artwork, and the atmospheric choices are extremely cool.

sadly with the first few chapters, a lot of the deep lore of the world and the nuances with the politics could be better explored, rather than using a postface to dump crucial information about the history and lore. it didn’t immediately grip me as much as i hoped it would due to that very reason.

but then chapter 5-6 happened! which immediately held my attention, the panels were great, the dusk court is very cool,

and tuya?! was hinted at lowkey but still such a fun twist!

might get the next volumes if the mood ever arises (especially since i hear promises of more sapphic pairings).

The art in this first volume was gorgeous!!! Many pretty women,,,, I'm very intrigued by this and really want to continue reading! High-stakes and action packed, it's really fun starting by just getting thrown into the action!!

It's dark and deadly, full of blood and gore. Too violent for a novel,  more like a movie. Well it could be one. This is the first time I've read something so graphic and obscene. It's a little scary, psycho really but love the fantasy lore and beauty of the art. The cats made it cute. This is like some mythos of old reborn into a novel, full of slavery and abuse. So far it captivated my senses, who wouldn't, it's really a monstrous Monstress. Definitely will be reading more of this in the future for sure.

I just want to say that whoever was lauding this graphic novel as being a “sapphic” graphic novel online when I Googled it… one single page of “representation” in a 200 page graphic novel between two side characters does not make the wlw representation in this book good or substantive at all, and I’m upset I wasted my time because the story wasn’t even worth reading for all the horrific violence. Oh, not to mention how some of the villains were drawn versus how the protagonists were drawn. Being fat or not meeting conventional beauty standards ≠ bad/evil. Disappointing all around. The one star is for the cats, and the fox child. I didn’t enjoy anything else.

As much as I love the art I'm not feeling particularly drawn to keep picking this up and there are bits that are hard to follow that don't seem like they need to be.
