I really enjoyed this one. This is a great bonus story/intro for the series. I happened to have read the Tracy Crosswhite series before finding this intro but it was still great to actually get the events of what happened when Tracy went to the police academy. I really enjoyed it and it was well done and gives more details to events that are mentioned in the story/series (history with Nolasco and Jenny Almond).

Good short story…
This was a good short story. I wonder if there is a continuation of it? I would love to read it if there was.

Short story
Well I apparently owned like book #6 of this series so I'm glad I found the series on Kindle Unlimited. I think Tracy Collins is going to be the rookie to watch out for and I want to know if she solves the mystery.

I really enjoyed this, I liked that we get to see where it all started and why.
I like books like this and wish more authors would do this especially for long standing series.
Great narration really got my attention.

Yup, Nolasco is a total dick. Surprise, surprise. This novella just proves how it got started. Tracy Crosswhite was still a complete bad ass back then. I LOVE IT!!!

I hadn't heard of the author until recently when I came across a review of one of his full length novels. The average rating of 4.2 with over half a mil ratings is quite impressive. I picked up this book to get a feel of his writing before going into his novels. And I approve :-)
This short story gives an introduction into Tracy Crosswhite's character. The author has packed in all the relevant details in just 44 pages.
She handles the interview so well, I almost stood up and clapped. "What are you going to do if you get preganant?" Her response- "What do the men do?" . The next question, "What if you get a boyfriend and he gets you pregnant?". Her reply - "Then he can stay home and take care of the baby". Atta Girl ! You have shown it to all those who think women should sit at home and reproduce.
She knows to hit where it hurts to get back to bullies. I wish everyone had her temperament to stand up to perverts like Nolasco, who abuse their positions of power.
With such amazing characters, I can't wait to read the other books in the series.

"Her father had told her that guns were like his patients. Each had its own peculiarities. The best doctors and shooters were the ones who learned to work with them."
Spoiler
I confess that I don't usually read the novellas of a series, but Jonetta @ Blue Mood Café told me that in this case they would provide me with important background of the main character Tracy Crosswhite. Since I don't have the time to read all the remaining sequels before turning to my ARC of book nine, I decided to jump in and read both novellas in one go. The Academy is first, and tells us the story of how Tracy first signed up for the police academy and what happened during her training. It gives us more background on her troubled dynamics with Detective Johnny Nolasco, who doesn't want women on the force and is determined to see both Tracy and fellow classmate Jenny fail. Discrimination and basically sexual assault aside, it was good to see Tracy being a firecracker even back then. I do prefer the actual books, but this novella was short and entertaining enough even though I prefer not spending more time than necessary with characters like Nolasco.

I really liked the feminist twist to the story and seeing Tracy start out on her career, but I felt like it was a little too short and could have been expanded.

This answered so many questions!
This short story provided so much background. I have a much better understanding of Tracy's feelings toward with Nolasco. Love her spunk and willingness to help others succeed.
