I forced myself to finish this book. I was enjoying it up until the end. There are lots of reviews that recommend this book based on the twist that it has. I do not think that twist was well executed, and it made me angry and unsure if this is a series that I would want to continue.

All I knew going into this is that there is a twist in it that u will never see coming? And to go in blind otherwise (dont even read the back of the book/synopsis its better that way) and they were right!

I kept trying to theorize thruout the book. NOPE! u will not see this coming. Now I almost want to reread it all to see if there were clues but i dont think so? So i need book 2 soon please lol

This book needs world building. Like, a lot. Seriously, there is an entire group of people who can't go on land, but somehow live in trees? It is minimally discussed (and because of that, makes no sense to me tbh). If the world was built out, I feel like this would have absolutely had the potential to be at least a four star read to me....until the end. There are two ways that we could have gotten the ending we did and had it work. The first would have been to have it all up front (I'm thinking like The Bridge Kingdom). Have the chapter of Jovi/B talking to Kai about their plan before it happens, and have her slowly feel guilty for it throughout and end up modifying her plan based on the love of Acker. The second, which involve modifying the story much more but would probably be better is to have this NOT be a first-person single POV. Alternatively maybe some magical intervention/interference to make Jovi/B forget her initial goal? But there is absolutely no way a person, whose POV we even get while she is sleeping, wouldn't think about her plan at all for the entire time covered by this story.

So, basically, I will not be continuing the series unless the FOMO gets completely out of control and I also run out of books on my TBR....so pretty unlikely.

4.5 ⭐️ the slow burn, agnst, the worlds and what the frick was that ending. Where is book 2? I need it now

It was starting to drag but the plot twist was soooo twisty. I didn’t see it coming. Definitely redeeming

Didn’t expect the plot twist at the end, and it seemed kinda random.
