Since I heard about this book, I wanted to read it. The idea behind it is really intriguing and I liked to dive into a character from a psychological point of view. The narration is reflective and actively addressing the reader which I liked as well. Although the protagonist is not likable the book tells a story that i won’t forget for now. This one will stay on my mind for a while for sure.

dark slow-paced

I recognize that the narrator is intended to be pretentious who in the end gets humiliated.

It is implied that the narrator is conventionally attractive, he comes across as arrogant, selfish and maybe charming. He's a womanizer. He sleeps with women and leaves them hanging. Then in the end, a woman sleeps with him and uses him for an art show in jest. It is implied that he is not as grand as he has suggested.

There are pieces of this book that I think aren't a complete waste. I found the writer did have some social commentary that is relevant. However, the narrator is incredibly disagreeable which causes me not to like it.

I can’t even describe the full body ick this book gave me. It felt like living inside a narcissistic incel’s head who was in denial.

This book was completely unnecessary. Just because there is an unlikable narrator does NOT mean the story is good. I literally just felt like it was a complete waste of my time and energy. Thank god it was short or it would’ve been a DNF. Just completely MEH.

This was an okay book. I would’ve loved it sm in middle school just due to the pure angst that this book is made up of the entire time. But at my current age it’s just sad and disappointing that there are adults who interact with others the way this dude does. Set up as a monologue/diary of a dude who hurts women by emotionally abusing them pretty much. He’s just a dick because the women get in the way of his addiction to alcohol and he’s lowkey a sadist. Then he gets sober and a woman does the same thing back to him, even tho he is aware of the irony he’s still like woe is me and it’s like dude move the fuck on. He was definitely a freak (derogatory) and this story would’ve been way more interesting from the women’s perspectives
