There’s a lot of tragedy in this book, but it’s still a pleasant journey. It’s sort of a tasty snack of a book: salty, sweet, low nutritional value, consumed quickly and gladly, but not enough if you’re hoping for a proper meal.

This was a quick read and I really enjoyed it. This is about three very different women, and the men they find themselves with, in the Florida keys with the backdrop of the worst hurricane to ever hit Florida. I did not know anything about the hurricane that hit the Florida keys in 1935 or about the WWI veterans who were down there in labor camps to build a highway. What I love about historical fiction is that I always want to learn the true history about what I am reading in the fictional book. I recently visited Key West which is what made me want to read the book.
4.5/5. The 3rd book I've read in the Perez Family series. I am a dork about Key West and the railroad after reading Last Train to Paradise - and I loved how the stories of the 3 women came together. A few pieces I definitely guessed well in advance (John's story), and some I absolutely was surprised by (Tom's ending). Another great book from Chanel Cleeton.
Chanel Cleeton is a master story teller. The way she took three seemingly completely separate lives and weaves them into one connected story. The American mafia and the WWI vets were two aspects I wasn’t expecting to factor into a Florida hurricane in 1935. All three strong women featured were very well presented and developed as characters. One of the crescendo moments brought me to tears…
Nice story. I found it very predictable and easy to put down. But I liked it enough to finish. Strong women characters, which is always a plus.
I listened to this book on Audible and enjoyed the storyline of the 3 main characters as much as the historical details. Yes, there are too many coincidences to be believed, but I enjoyed the grit and resilience all 3 women displayed.

As a stand-alone novel, I enjoyed this book. However, in the whole of Cleeton’s stories about Cuba, this one felt more disconnected and disjointed than the others. I appreciate the diversity within this series, but I wasn’t prepared for a story so removed from Cuba and the Perez sisters.

After being so confused at the beginning trying to identify my Perez sisters- I finally realized they weren’t in it. Haha. Then I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story!!
This book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat! It’s about the 1935 hurricane in the Florida Keys, and the description of the storm and its aftermath is terrifying. The story is told from the alternating points of view of three women facing their own unique struggles as the storm looms.
