An easy to read historical fiction told from the perspective of three different women. It was a glimpse into a unique piece of history I knew nothing about- the railroad to key west and a devastating hurricane in 1935. I enjoyed the elements of feminism and strong female characters.

It started slow for me and almost decided to DNF it because it felt like the plot with the women characters was going to be predictable, but after reading about the Hurricane of 1935 I picked it back up and it became very fast paced and intense. Didn't see a few things coming so it was very good. Almost better than the previous books I've read of hers so far. So glad I finished it.

Couldn’t put this down! Old Florida, historical fiction, romance, intrigue, a natural disaster. Check check check

I liked her other books, and maybe it was for the history of Cuba that was so fascinating, but this book was a disappointment in comparison. An interesting historical event I knew nothing about, but it was overshadowed by too much going on at one. You have Mob conflict tying three perspectives together that did connect, but I found that because there were the three perspectives, there wasn’t enough time spent on any to make me care much for their stories. I liked Helen most- but Elizabeth felt like a tool to be placed there in order to connect Helen with the other characters. This book was both entirely too long and too short at the same time. I think if it were one character we followed and were able to get more depth to the story of them, maybe even Mitra, than it would have felt more complete.
