My least favourite of Cleeton's for sure. However, the characters were awesome. I love the kind of feme fatale her characters have, they are badass women who will do anything for their families and they arent all about finding their prince charming (which can sometimes be lacking in historical fiction books).
Somethings I didn't like: this book felt far too short for me... I feel like things could've been spread out a little better? This is the shortest in this series this far with less than 300 pages and it all felt rushed and cramped together. And the other thing: what is with these insta-lovey romances?! Why? What is their purpose? I dont believe them, and they ultimately take away from my enjoyment of the overall story.
Was this good? Yes. Did I learn something I didnt know about before? Also yes. Cleeton's use of research for the particular event followed in this novel shows. And it is devastating what happened in real life during this tragedy. Were there things that could've been done better? Yes.
I still highly enjoyed this novel. And I'd recommend for anyone wanting more! I want another book in this series... I'm just not sure who it would focus on...
