This book is about an unnamed woman who is abducted and kept in a shed by an unnamed man (well, until you learn his name) for over five years. She shares her rules for survival with the audience, and we root for her as she plans and manuevers a (hopeful) escape. We also receive a few sporadic POVs of past women he had kidnapped, who ultimately met their demise, which makes you wonder why he has kept this one woman alive for so long!

This is a debut novel, so I have a lot of hope that the author's skills in shocking and/or writing a much more riveting ending will only flourish. I really did enjoy most of this book, and I would absolutely call this a "page turner." However, the ending felt a bit lackadaisical and lackluster? I expected a bit more of a twist or a more pronounced conclusion.

It’s dark and tense but still manages to be very digestible. I enjoyed Rachel and witnessing her growth. I found her to be a very realistic character and her journey was methodical, which I appreciated. I don’t understand the point of Emily’s POV, it seemed somewhat unnecessary. I also don’t think her backstory justifies her role in the plot.

I saw a lot of people hyping this up on booktok, and I get why. It's a fast-paced read, I read this in two sittings, super easy to get through. I think it's better targeted for people who aren't very into the thriller/mystery genre. I was slightly disappointed there was no big plot twist, I kept making up these crazy twists about how this story would play out, but it just ended up playing out as what I consider to be a predictable story line.
