The Daredevil

Hadley and Calder’s story is so good! This book showed what it’s like to be overlooked and tried to fit into a mold that you don’t belong in. It was very heavy emotionally at times but the love story is so great and I loved Birdie and Sage and how different they are as twins. Catherine wrote another phenomenal book.

I loved getting to know Hadley more in her story. I was intrigued by the relationship between her and her mom, as I feel I can connect to that part of her. I felt like the conflict was a little bit dragging/a bit all over the place, but when the conflict reached its peak at the end, I was sucked in and honestly kinda shocked at who it was. I’m glad Beckett came home when he received the news of Hadley’s attack, and I’m excited to see how he and Addie find themselves together.

SYNOPSIS:
Hadley lives a double life, hiding the fact that she is a daredevil who has a video channel  showcasing all her tricks. Calder is her brothers best friend, and he used to be her best friend also. He’s the one who introduced her to the adrenaline rush of daredevil activities. He pushed her away years ago after his children were in an accident that almost killed them. He couldn’t sit by and watch Hadley be reckless any longer after the accident. Hadley starts getting threatening messages on her video profile, as well as text messages to her personal number. She tells her friends who help her record, edit and post that she needs to take a break from videoing because of the threats. Toby, who’s the closest to Hadley and the main helper, is kind of upset by it but he pushes it aside. When Jackie, Calder’s ex-wife and  the reason the girls almost died, returns to town, he is put on edge. Calder and Hadley end up getting together, finally. Jackie sees this and gets more angry and threatening. Toby also sees it and gets agitated since he knows that Hadley has been in love with Calder for years and he was the one to help her through the heartache when Calder pushed her away years ago. Jackie attacks Hadley and pushes her off a cliff in her car, but Calder and Hayes rescue her. Jackie is arrested. Weeks later, Hadley is attacked again. This time it’s by Calla, one of the friends who used to help with videoing her tricks. Calla was with Toby, but reveals that he broke up with her after Toby realized he was in love with Hadley. Calla revealed that she was the mastermind behind all the threats, even being the one who coerced Jackie into attacking Hadley. When Calder and Hayes attempt to rescue Hads again, she ends up shot by Calla, and she barely survives. Calla dies on the scene due to Hayes shooting her. A week later, Hadley wakes from her coma and agrees to marry Calder and even tells the girls she would love to be their mom. A month passes and now it’s their wedding.

I read a lot of books, and I love and enjoy many of those books. But there are few books that immediately after starting I know is going to ruin my life with how much I'm going to love and obsess over it. And as soon as I started Catherine Cowles' Falling Embers I knew that this was going to be one of those books, and I was right. I don't know what it was that struck a cord with me, but I was just instantly hooked on this book, finishing it in maybe three hours, and it isn't a fluff filled book that you just zip through. There is a lot of emotion, and drama stemming from unresolved past trauma. I just can't say enough about how much I loved this book. Falling Embers is the first book I've read in her The Tattered and Torn Series, and any of her books and I now plan on going through her book catalog so I can get more of her writing, and I cannot wait for her next book to come out either. I also absolutely loved the suspense aspect of the story, wanting to know who Hadley's stalker and troll was, I will admit that I suspected two people and I ended up being correct so I feel like a detective.
Ever since Hadley's sister, Shiloh was kidnapped when they were children she has been suffocated by her mother. Growing up her mother wouldn't let her do anything for fear of something happening to her and now it doesn't matter what she does but she can't seem to ever do anything right in her mothers eyes. If it weren't for her brother's best friend, Calder, teaching her extreme sports as a teenager she doesn't know how she would have survived growing up. Hadley always being in love with him didn't hurt either. While she and Calder have had a huge falling out in the last few years she has always be there for him and his twin daughters. Hadley is done waiting for Calder to open his eyes, but just as she's about to give up he starts to open his eyes...
Calder has always loved being with Hadley, even when he had other priorities in his life. But because of that he almost lost the two most important people in his life, his daughters, Sage and Birdie. So he cut Hadley out of his personal life, but as they work together and she helps with his daughters he's never really escaped his feelings for her. But one day he realizes what a mistake he's made with Hadley and just how much he loves her as more than a friend. But when Hadley starts being harassed by an anonymous stalker connected to her online extreme sports videos he steps up to make sure that Hadley stays safe. Can Calder keep Hadley and his girls safe from whoever this stalker is?
