The story is very predictable. There were moments when the characters could have done something interesting and unpredictable, but they never did. Everyone was so understanding and forgiving when they were wronged or mistreated that even the drama was predictable and kind of uninteresting. I liked the characters but didn’t love them. They could have been deeper and more complicated.

Overall, I really liked the concept of an alternate history of the U.S. becoming a monarchy. It was well written and I liked the varying perspectives of the different characters. It could have been so much more.

This was so disappointing..
I was anticipating a Red White & Royal Blue meets The Selection but instead it was boring and it lagged sooo much.

It was also very frustrating how NONE of the plot points tied up at the end and  I def don’t want to read the sequel.

Just all around such an unsatisfying read.
also, are we really supposed to sympathize with a girl who drugged her friend and committed MANSLAUGHTER?! <spoiler/>

Read as a soapy drama, I liked it.  It was interesting to switch characters perspectives and see how things got trapped and separated from each other
However there was so much more potential to explore how having a monarchy affected American history rather than a wink wink nudge nudge things like the Louisiana purchase still happened
