So...this book.
I had a lot of problems with this book. Let's break them down, shall we?!
Horny teenagers on main!!!
Why?! Why was this so much of the book?! Their romance is so much of this book it's annoying. And the resolution to the unknown fiance was by far the biggest anti-climax.
Thomas is a good boy!
Do we really need to get told how much of a forward thinking and awesome man Thomas is every other paragraph? We get it, he loves his Audrey Rose and wants her to be a strong independent woman, I don't need to be told about it constantly.
Audrey is PRETTY not like other girls!
This is nice for a change that a female character is aware of her attractiveness for a change, but I already know that she's pretty, you don't have to keep reminding me of her black hair and how all colors compliment her.
Nathaniel
Oh my god, did we have to go out of out way to make sure that Nathaniel isn't actually Jack the Ripper?! Why couldn't he just be Jack?! Why does he end up having to be morally grey? To spare Audrey feelings? Weak sauce!
Audrey is really good even though she likes cutting up bodies and not like other girls!
Girl, you are facing down America's first recorded serial killer and you want to sit there arguing with yourself about morals?! Embrace your dark side! It would make you far more interesting than this, "No, I won't lose myself. I'm not like him!" Hmmmmm.....
Thinking you're smarter than the killer
The second your protagonist thinks that they've doomed themselves. And only going to face off against a real monster with scalpels, a cane and a heart craving vengeance? Yeah, you deserved to get your ass handed to you.
ALL OF THAT SAID, following the infamous H.H. Holmes and the few times when Audrey and Thomas act like partners while also being slightly lovey-dovey are what made this series great. But this plot was so bogged down by personal bullshit that the plot stopped and started all along the way. And then the payoff was sorely lacking.
Escaping from Houdini was by far the worst of the series, but Capturing the Devil comes in a close second.

From reading the reviews I have concluded that the fandom seems to feel just as torn as I do. I was so excited for the final novel, it's protagonist was H.H. Holmes for crying out loud, but feel that the love story and wedding drama overtook the plot leaving very little room for murder. While I did enjoy Audrey and Thomas's relationship I did not feel that this novel was well balanced between action and romance relying too heavily on the romance while the action was hung out to dry. That's what prevented it from being a five star book for me.
I enjoyed the connection between Holmes and Jack the ripper that was made, very American Ripper which I greatly enjoyed. I plan on rereading Stalking Jack the Ripper to see if this conclusion was alluded to from the very start. I did purchase this as I enjoyed it very much and found it to be my second favorite of the series behind the original. Maniscalco has a fan in me and I will be eagerly awaiting her next release.

Wow!
What a perfect ending to a perfect series. This had quickly become my favorite book series of ALL TIME. I knew from the first book that these books would feel ever hold a special place in my heart.
While for the first half of this book mainly focuses on Audrey Rose and Thomas’s relationship and less on finding “Jack The Ripper” it’s highly enjoyable. I’ve always been a fan of a side-plot of romance and had the focus been so focused on their relationship during the first book I don’t think I would’ve been able to finish the series but because it HAD been a big focus in the fourth book I could withstand and even found myself enjoying. It worked well because I had already fallen in love with the characters, and speaking of which Thomas Cresswell is the first male character that I have actually REALLY loved. Most male characters do things that piss me off but Thomas always gave Audrey Rose a choice even if he didn’t agree with said choice and that earned him a place in my heart.
I had borrowed the books from my sister but since I had loved it so much, I had to purchase my own copies obviously. I’m already inching to reread the series, more specifically the third book.
Overall it was a 10/10 series and one that will definitely be ingrained in my brain for as long as I live. I can only hope that the author decides to come fourth with a few more of this series because I’m already missing Audrey Rose and Thomas.

Omg! The ending had me on the edge of my seat. I'm going to miss going on adventures with Audrey Rose and Thomas. This book touched scenes of the earlier books. My heart breaks that she'll never get to run her fingers over her brothers journal and letters.
