4.12 AVERAGE

It had more romance in it than the others but it intertwined nicely with the general mystery murders. Plus, Audrey Rose and Thomas are adorable together so I'm not complaining.
I loved how it related back to the Jack the Ripper murders back in London (the very first book) ad explained it more. I never really thought back on Nathaniel other than when the characters in the book mentioned him but I'm glad more of his story and past were thrown under the light.
The book and its settings and its characters were very much in tune to real history which I appreciated. The author takes the time to spell out those in her end notes.
Even though its her theory and take on the JTR murders, I love her take on it.
The story had me on my toes and I couldn't tear my eyes away from the pages when Audrey Rose was with the culprit at the end. The romance was a bit of relief for me in between the morbid murders and darkness of the case. Especially the wedding at the end. It summed up their story on a warm note after all the main protagonists had been through.
Also! The return of Noah from the 2nd and Mephistopheles (including the rest of the carnival) from the 3rd book was great to see back. Audrey Rose's grandmother was a delight too.

This book was....okay. The only reasons I read it were: (1) it was the last book in the series; and (2) it seemed to involve the infamous H.H. Holmes. I only finished the book because I was determined to read what happened at the end. But it took some serious effort. The intricate details used by the author in the first book in the plot development did not seem to appear in this book. Instead, the mystery portion seemed to be haphazard at best. This was disappointing. I loved the detail used in the first book - it was what drew me into the series to begin with. On top of that, the romance portion of the plot seemed to overshadow the mystery portion completely.
What kept me reading: (1) the link between Jack the Ripper and H.H. Holmes; (2) the expected confrontation at the infamous Murder Hotel; and (3) the expected happy ending for Audrey Rose and Thomas.
Overall, while the book was okay, I definitely will not be rereading this book.

What an amazing ending to the series. Only remark I have is that we focused a lot on the relationship in the beginning of the book and almost nothing on the case. And than it skyrocketed out of nowhere. But still very good, love the characters and their relationships. Super ending to a thrilling series!

The ending wrapped up a little too nicely/quickly for me. It also made me think that I could’ve skipped the third one in the series altogether. Very romance oriented at the end though.

What a romantic conclusion to a wonderful, endearing, heartfelt series.

I will miss the most perfectly-matched couple & Team, Thomas and Audrey Cresswell *starts sobbing*

I enjoyed this last installment very much, as I was fully in the mood for their last romantic endeavor accompanied with some murder mystery. It blended together better than I thought it would.

Believe me, my expectations were low, but by the end I was quite satisfied with all of it. Nothing felt incomplete (that I cared about), and nothing felt rushed. A good feeling indeed.

Onto the spoilery bits...

Now, the term “worried” was essentially an understatement when it came to my emotional state during the first 150 pages of this book. Everything was progressing quite smoothly—TOO smoothly, and I literally had a wall built around me, preparing for an attack on my emotions.

Needless to say, I initially thought my methods were sound and necessary. After Audrey and Thomas has spent such a wonderful time together being flirtatious and eventually spending their first night together before the wedding. During the wedding, everything—to put it lightly—GOES TO SHIT. Some heathen called Whitewall or something like that, comes out of the woodworks claiming they cannot wed because Thomas is engaged to her. NO. NO YOU HEATHEN. You CANNOT break up the most precious duo alive, but of course! Of course she does this, and it heats my blood to a boiling point.

Furthermore, to learn it was his serpent of a father made it much worse. He’d used blackmail on Thomas and his lovely sister Dacina to get his way. What an ass. How could you? Thomas and Audrey are literally perfect you heartless son of a bitch.

I’m only so emotional because I hate when they fight. I hate when Thomas is angry. When Thomas is angry, so am I. I’m in a rage on his behalf. And dear lord he was ANGRY. I felt it. All the way.

Back to it though, I will say everything calmed down faster than I expected. Audrey and Thomas couldn’t stay away from each other despite their predicament, and I was ecstatic. My iron wall meant to protect my emotional state hadn’t even been necessary. But I was glad because instead, Thomas was happy, and so was I.

Now onto the plot. I was a bit curious about this element of the book, as the murder-mystery portion seemed a bit like background noise during the first half of the book due to their wedding and then...not...wedding. It did pick up a bit after that, and they revisited the discovery mentioned in the beginning of the book; that there were not one, but TWO Jack the Ripper’s in the world. This led them to firstly travel to Chicago—where they believe the Ripper to be headed— and secondly, inquire about the missing women they discover have disappeared in Chicago. This leads them to run into a few old friends like Mephistopheles and Noah, both from other installments. Not going to lie and say I didn’t suspect them. I DID. But in the end it was merely some guy Audrey had bumped into, and had allowed to treat Thomas and Johnathan when they were poisoned.

I found that not very...climactic. For a final installment, I expected a WOW for the second Jack the Ripper. And learning that it was Mr.Holmes did not surprise me in the least. Not that I was heavily relying on that aspect of the book because I wasn’t. Of course I was here for the dream team, and because their ending was flushed out better than I had hoped, it trumped all else for me.

So in the end, I can say that I am glad to have read this series, and I have no doubts I will enjoy this again when the mood strikes.

I loved, loved, LOVED how this tied back to the first book. In my opinion, it joined the whole series together PERFECTLY!

Honestly, I had to close the book when their wedding got interrupted the first time because I have never gone from loving one character to hating the next one so fast. Thomas's dad fucking sucks, but Grandmama for the win! Giving all her property to Audrey Rose was a power move!

I loved that Audrey and Thomas got to start their own agency, but the epilogue still made me so upset because it's really over now!

Deveria ser 5 estrelas? Não. Mas sou cadela de Audrey Rose e Thomas então foda-se é isso.
