Wow what an ending to one of my all time fav series. This was wonderful and engaging. I can't believe the series is over. I want more Audrey-Rose and Thomas Cresswell adventures.

I loved this one! What a good ending to a series, and finished off with my favorite serial Killer, H.H. Holmes. I can't wait for more books by Kerri and am in for the long haul as a fan

I read the first three books in this series over Christmas and loved them! A Victorian era sleuth who's a feisty, forward thinking female who doesn't put up with rubbish in Audrey Rose was a welcome addition to historical YA. Combined with a sparring partner in the dashing and devilish Thomas Cresswell, a new literary couple was born. The charm of the books was the chemistry between Wadsworth and Cresswell, and the fun settings they solved mysteries in: Castle Dracula, Jack the Ripper London, Harry Houdini cruise liners. The fact that these were young people who were intelligent, apprenticing to a gruff professor of forensic medicine was something different for the young adult set. It was new and fresh and super enjoyable. So I was keen to read the fourth book, Capturing the Devil. Unfortunately this was not my favourite book in the series, but it did have enough elements to enjoy it. There were genuinely creepy moments, the historical research is well done and the cast of characters from previous books all get a mention as this is the final book in the series. But I must say this novel lacked a bit of the chemistry of the previous books, and I wonder if it's because the thrill of the chase is gone. Wadsworth and Cresswell are well suited as a will they or won't they couple, like many from pop culture, but once you start to mess with that it changes things. I suppose this final book is written for the fans at heart, so ends are tied up nicely, even if predictably. There was a lot happening in this one too, with romance being the focus rather than crime and solving murders. There was a weird secondary story about betrothal and Victorian cultural norms. And the use of previous story lines to create links to this new mystery was confusing at times. Look, I really enjoyed this series, and would absolutely recommend it, but lately I've read a few four book series that probably should have ended at book three. Saying that, each book on this series has its merits, and you could read them as stand alone novels too. My favourite is still Hunting Prince Dracula, for many reasons!
