I really enjoyed this novel. The Memory book is about Sammy, an aspiring student who is a member of the Debate club, the valedictorian and wants to go to NYU. She starts a sort of diary when she is diagnosed with a rare disease that works a bit like dementia. Sammy wants to live as long as she can and to remember everything.
You will have a lot of feelings. It's nicely written and the main character has a clear, sarcastic voice. However, I wish the focus wouldn't have been so much on the romance but more on her family and female friend.

I had a very hard time getting into this book for the first half. The book started as more of a "journal" aspect and then it switched to first person in a very choppy format. Yes, it was sad at times, but I wasn't completely torn by it.

I wasn’t expecting much from this book but it grabbed me tight and didn’t let go until it was finished. It was SO sad but SO good. The perfect mix of everything I like in a book.

By far the best book i’ve ever read.

It usually takes me a few weeks to read a book but I couldn’t put this book down, from the moment I opened it to the moment my eyes read the last word, I was transported to the very mountain that Sammie lived on. This book gave me everything from butterflies to tears and it was totally worth it, i’m a sucker for romance and this book had so many twists and turns but i loved them all.

I read this for a 'books that will make you cry' challenge and found this on a few lists. As you read you get a sense of what is happening and I thought I'd be fine. I thought 'Yeah, this is sad, but I don't think I'm going to cry...'

Then the last three pages of the book happened.

Then I'm balling trying to explain the story and why I started crying in the first place as I start crying again.

So yeah, it's good. You'll cry.

Sammie has always been bright and hard working. She is in the running for valedictorian, has been accepted into her first choice for college and plans to leave her small town and make something of herself. When she is diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that is taking away her memories and quickly shortening her lifespan, she is determined to beat the disease. Out of her determination comes the Memory Book. Sammie makes notes to her future self with the goal of nudging memories and helping to keep her focused. Will these memories be enough?

The Memory Book is a stand-alone realistic fiction novel that will snatch reader’s attention from the beginning. The events are given as journal entries with additional nuggets included as extra posts from family and friends. Readers may find themselves torn with the knowledge of first crush and first love alongside Sammie. Avery has created an emotional rollercoaster that will leave the reader with a variety of feelings along the way. A must read that will appeal to male and female readers alike.

Received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Warning: This book will break your heart. THE MEMORY BOOK by Lara Avery is a breathtaking account of high school senior Sammie coming to terms with the knowledge that she will never get to live the life she had worked and planned for. During her senior year she is diagnosed with an incredibly rare genetic disorder called NCP, which means she will gradually (then very quickly) lose her memories, her ability to speak, walk, etc. In the tragic, yet hilarious words of Sammie “Your sh*t is f*cked.” The story is told through a variety of journal entries in a memory book, mainly from Sammie—but some from family and friends. It will make you laugh, cry, swoon… Yes. This one has ALL OF THE FEELS!

Lara Avery is a spectacular write and storyteller. You immediately feel as if you are Sammie and you are going through this hell, yourself. The characters are beautifully developed and the story is perfectly paced. She manages to approach something that could become so depressing and melodramatic, with humor and grace. You will not want this gorgeous story to end.

Perfect for fans of books like “All The Bright Places” or “The Fault in Our Stars.” Make sure to have some tissues handy. You’re going to need them.

You may have seen my blog post from the author of this book. The book itself was a great read. In the book, we learn what it is like to not being able to remember things and the impact on life. I enjoyed this book because it was hard to read, but also beautifully written. I really enjoyed the story and I am glad I got to help get the word out about this one.

Dit boek komt zo hard binnen!
Ik zit gewoon te janken en moet zo naar mijn werk. Dit moet ik echt even verwerken. Update volgt.

Echt genoten. En gejankt. Oprecht hard gejankt
