A collection of classic ghost tales. Almost all of them have a narrator telling the story to a group (reminds me a bit of Straub's ghost story, and the beginning of several horror tales), and almost all end with the "and the hook was hanging from the door handle" type ending. There is a reason that this trope still works. I enjoyed the stories, maybe "Thirteen" the best. I have the More version in paperback.

M.R. James is fucking rad. "Oh, Whistle and I'll Come to You, My Lad" is the famous one, but I personally thought "Count Magnus" and "Lost Hearts" were even more fucked up.
Several "ghost" stories from across the times.
Some of them were interesting, some were boring, and one actually put me to sleep! Interesting though to see how they have changed over the years.

This was BEAUTIFULLY written. I’m glad I picked this book up. A select few were forgettable and others were just okay. My personal favs are “The Ash-tree” and “The Treasure of Abbot Thomas.” Everything was explained so well I could literally see everything going down in my own eyes. I was rarely confused nor uninterested. Good book.
