I don't know how to express myself about this book, I don't have a strong opinion about it, I liked some parts but many others no, I did some research because I can always tell when I’m reading a wattpad book and I discovered that it has in fact came out of Wattpad
The plot itself is compelling and there are interesting subplots, all the mystery and the miscommunication between the characters lead you to want to know how the story will evolve but the problem with the book in my opinion is it lacks emotion and substance, both in the characters and in the dynamics described, it all seems a bit flat and I don't know why. I just know that if I can read a book with a straight face start to end even during some fucked up shit there’s a problem, I couldn't connect with the couple, maybe because for me if you want to write some good second chance romance there must be more flashbacks or past chapters so I can connect at least with the version of the characters when they met each other fall in love and then break up, you know I need to mourn the couple as much as they mourn each other in the present, a practical example is in "the truth we burn" in that book I could feel the hostility the hatred and above all the love between Sage and Rook, but with Kade and Stacey a lot is said and little is shown and even less felt. I'm sorry to say this because it is an original story in itself, I found Kade a very complex and interesting character, and it is perhaps one of the few things that pushed me through the somewhat immature writing style, we finally have a dark romance mmc that is complex and different, he is vulnerable but he is also violent corrupt, he is both victim and executioner, insicure and confident and he always questions himself, it was a nice change and if I will continue the series he’ll be a decisive part of my decision.
