Delicious and sickeningly devastating. I did not expect to care about Kade & Stacey this much. I really love them and I’m heartbroken for them.

This book was dark, emotionally intense, and unexpectedly addictive. The dual timeline worked really well, I loved seeing 18-year-old Stacey and Kade as shy, vulnerable teenagers slowly falling for each other. It made their present day emotional distance and trauma hit much harder.

Stacey's Situation is heartbreaking. She is hated by her ex for a video he saw, not knowing it was edited and that her abusive stepbrother had been selling her body. The fact that she still lives under the same roof as him is deeply disturbing.

Kade’s obsession is raw and dark, but you can still see the boy he once was. He’s broken in his own way, and the chemistry between him and Stacey is intense, sometimes overwhelming. The smut is graphic but well written and emotionally charged.

However, the miscommunication trope was frustrating. Some scenes felt repetitive just because the characters wouldn’t say what needed to be said. I’m really hoping book 2 clears that up and gives them a real chance to heal and grow.

That said, the book still gave me all the messy Wattpad vibes,  just with more depth, darker themes, and much better writing.

Immediately gave this book a five out of five stars, contrary to not liking Leigh River’s other duet (The Web of Silence), Insatiable had me hooked throughout the whole novel and the flashbacks from their 18 year old selves were done beautifully. Oh and did I mention Kade is a biker and that Stacey is an aerialist? 😩 I loved seeing the two at 18-years old being their shy, inexperienced selves and exploring with each other because behind Kade Mitchell’s new self there was once a boy who would constantly get butterflies or be nervous around Stacey Rhodes, one who was innocent to the underworld he’d soon be dragged into- unaware on how to use a gun or abuse substances to reach a new high. It was adorable seeing Kade get all worked up and giddy around Stacey when they were younger and a present scene from the book when she danced to “Skin” by Rihanna while her ex, Kade was watching got me so heated, oh my days I loved her for that. Even more so for still choosing to show off the tattoos she had gotten with her and Kade’s initials (that he designed) even though he chose to cover them up. I also loved how significant the movie "The Greatest Showman" was for them, it was what led to them sneaking around to watch and binging together. My heart shatters for the two and the miscommunication that led to threatening their relationship, not only did they lose a child at 19-years old but they broke up not even due to their own faults. I cannot even comprehend what it would have felt like for Stacey to be hated on by her ex for seeing an edited video of her cheating, when in actuality her shithead of a brother Chris had sold her- her body- and charged at an hourly rate for people to do as they please and still she must live under the same roof as her tormenter. I’m grateful that although one of Stacey’s step-brothers turned out to be a complete freak, she had Kyle who always acted as the older brother she needed. And Kade: miserable and heartbroken and waiting outside Stacey’s dance Studio was when Bernadette first met him and gosh I wish she didn’t. She manipulated his teenage broken heart and got Kade to work with her, eventually blackmailing him and threatening his family, prostituting his body around and using him as her unaliver. All while this was happening, he said still watched over Stacey despite believing he was entitled to hate her. Stacey and Kade deserve so much more, they deserved their happy ending and now 21-years old, I hope in Voracious they do get the ending they deserve. A scene that really shattered me was when Stacey found Kade drunk and beat up and washed him while he would talk about his ex-her- to Stacey and how much he missed her but couldn’t get with her. It all made sense now, he was trying to protect her from the dark world he’s now unable to escape, "Atleast I got to kiss her". I’m also really glad that Stacey had told some part of the truth to Tobias Mitchell, and knowing his situation, locked behind bars while the love of his life is raising their kids with another man only further makes me attached to this book. I know for a fact Voracious will have me sobbing even more but I’m just as excited to continue Kade and Stacey’s story, as well as Aria and Tobias, Bas and Luciella and Tylar and Dez.
My favourite most gut-wrenching and emotional quotes are: (1) "Bryan Tiernan," she says, flipping it open to an image of his broken face, "filed two charges against you this morning. Assault and arson. I had to pay him off and tell him not to speak a word of it again. Care to explain why you're attacking random people in their homes then setting it alight?" I stay silent. Tap my fingers on the armrests. I should've killed him
like I killed the last guy she slept with.
No one fucks Stacey and gets away with it. I can't have her, but nobody else will. (2)  She smiles at something Dez says, and my hand grips my beer. As much as she looks innocent and sweet, she's annoying; steals cigarettes out my mouth and walks away, rolls her eyes when I correct her, even if I'm right. She's called me every name under the sun, and it makes my day ten times better.
I shouldn't look at my sister's best friend the way I do, but when Stacey Rhodes walks into the room you can't not look [Flashback] (3) I can feel her smile against my mouth. And then... butterflies. I have fucking butterflies while kissing someone. What the fuck is wrong with me? [Flashback] (4) That version of myself doesn't exist now. I don't get anxiety around her because she's pretty and I have no idea what to do with her. No, I reckon if I fucked her now, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from strangling her to death. The anchor who broke me. (5) My brows furrow, and I almost stop the car to inspect the bruises she's tried to hide with make-up. My first instinct is to hunt down whoever hurt her and kill them, but then I remember the way I grabbed her at the studio, and I grip the steering wheel tighter. Surely I didn't cause those bruises? I didn't... Fuck. No, I wouldn't hurt her. She wanted me to hold her firmly. I should pull over and apologise right now. I should tell her that I never meant to mark her. I'm not a psychopath that hurts the people I care about.
Yeah, I've shot people in the head or disfigured them, and I've tortured people for information to help Bernadette, but never have I lifted a hand to Stacey. (6) I chuckle then stop myself. I don't laugh in front of people I don't feel comfortable with. And she's the last person in the world who could make me feel comfortable. She makes me dizzy and crazy and fucking nervous. [Flashback] (7) Kade looks up, takes a careful step towards me and tries to move strands of hair - now sticky with blood - from my face, but I flinch from his touch. His hand freezes, then he drops it to his side. "You're afraid of me." I avert my eyes. "You are aware that you're the only person in the world I'd never hurt, right?" (8) She makes me more dangerous than I already am.
If she pointed at a random person and told me to shoot, I'd pull the trigger with no questions asked. Yet I can't stand to breathe the same air as her. I've even pictured myself killing her once or twice and regretted the mental images instantly. (9) Kade pushes away from the wall, leaning down to whisper, "If you weren't such a twisted snake, I'd tell you how hot you looked tonight." (The angst, hello?) (10) "I'm not your friend, Freckles. Do you know why?" I kiss her lips. "Because friends don't do this." I kiss her again, her top lip, then the bottom, before dragging my mouth across the sharp line of her jaw. "If I was your friend, I wouldn't think about you every second of the day. Iwouldn't want to feel you." [Flashback] (11) "I want you, but I can't have you," he says. "You deserve way better than me. If you knew half the shit I've had to do, you wouldn't be in this tight space with me now." (12) "What do you need to do for them?"
"Mani pârdod seksam un navei, lai aizsargatu visus, kurus milu." / “I am sold for sex and death to protect all I love” Kade leans into me more, raising his other hand between us to tuck another strand of hair behind my ear. I tilt my head, utterly confused by whatever language he's speaking.
He licks his lips. "Taja skaita jüs, vasaras raibumi." / “Including you, freckles” - I tilt my head. "What does it mean?"
He half-smiles, backing away from me, his hands leaving me until I have enough room to breathe. He opens the door and pauses. "I hope you never find out." (13) Tobias gets to his feet, walking to stand in front of me. I don't flinch as he rests his hand on my shoulder.
"She was my granddaughter. No one takes from me and gets away with it. Once I deal with Kade, I'm going to hunt down whoever is responsible. I promise you, little one."
I smile weakly. "You don't need to hunt for him - he lives right under my roof." 💀🩰🐍
