This book follows Vekya as she has to deal with her entire life being thrown upside down. First, her brother, who is the King, is murdered, which leads her to become the Queen she never wanted, or expected, to be, while also dealing with the grief of the loss of her twin. Also, she ends up getting placed into an arranged marriage for continuing peace. Due to all of this happening at once, Vekya does not know how to properly deal with her grief and her new responsibilities, and instead of becoming the Queen that she needs to be, she becomes focused on getting revenge on her brother's murderers. Her new Fiance comes to realize very fast that Vekya does not seem to care about what happens to her (now their) people, and does his best to wake her up and bring her back to her new reality and realize that she needs to do more for her people. Throughout the book, Vekya and Arran work together to discover who is wreaking havoc and killing those they love and are sworn to protect.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had the perfect amount of action, tension, and spice. Things were constantly happening until about 10% of this book and then it picked back up again around the halfway point. The spicey scenes were superb. Although there were times where I got annoyed with Veyka, and then I remembered everything what she went through (which you learn more about as you continue to read). I was also slightly annoyed with the amount of times where the main things used to describe Veyka were about her breasts and body, instead of her oh so shining personality and how great of a fighter she actually is.

I do think there could have been more world building. I was confused sometimes throughout the book.

I am an absolute sucker for enemies to lovers and ESPECIALLY arranged marriage to an enemy and this book encompassed both perfectly. The slow progression of their relationship away from enemies to lovers was the perfect speed and absolutely not insta-love on one side like it usually is. It's just all around perfect.

Also, the dedication has my heart.

Thank you to Emberly Ash, Cara Maxwell Romance, and Netgalley for the books in this series, and I will be binging all of them <3

loved everything except for two things.
1. some of the descriptions of veyka’s body were icky
2. i didn’t like veyka’s hate towards humans as a whole species. she acknowledges the entire book that those that killed her brother didn’t do so alone. is it so hard to realize that they could’ve easily been manipulated? and even if they weren’t, what does that have to do with the rest of the species?? i understand not caring about them or their plights, they’re seen as worthless by the fae, but the pure hate and rage just doesn’t make sense to me.

I’m loving the increase in Arthurian retellings that we’re getting these days – they all produce a new twist and are so fascinating, and “Crown of Earth and Sky” was no exception! This was an interesting new dark fantasy romance retelling, with an arranged marriage and two strong and independent main characters. While I will admit that the retelling plot was on the lighter side, I enjoyed all Arthurian aspects, and the overarching plotline was strong enough to stand on its own nonetheless.

“I whispered against his skin.
‘I see you – all of you. And I am not afraid.'”

One of the central facets was certainly the romance – it was a little twisted and dark, but the two MCs were beautifully dedicated to one another. Our FMC had not led as easy life, and while I found myself highly frustrated by her at stages, I could understand her actions. I do have to say that I didn’t really connect with her though, or grow to love her as much as I wanted, but she certainly had a strong character that will leave a lasting impression. I also appreciated the rep with her being strong but not skinny.

“Don’t change a single thing about that gorgeous body. Ever.”

I don’t really have an opinion on the MMC – I think the reason for the 3 star rating is because I wasn’t particularly attached to either of the MCs, though I adored some of the side characters. It’s possible that this book was a little too dark for me – I really have to stop trying dark romances/fantasy books when it’s clear that they’re just not for me.

Nonetheless, this was an interesting and very captivating read, and I read it in a night! Thank you so much to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the review copy provided.

3.5 stars RTC

3.5 but rounded up to a 4 because of enjoyment. I really enjoyed this one - there were definitely elements that I wasn't 100% sure about (including the use of the word Bottom) HOWEVER by the end i couldn't put it down as it was so action packed. Definitely adding to my series TBR list now!

Crown of Earth and Sky by Emberly Ash offers a captivating blend of high fae court politics, romance, and Arthurian mythology, which had me instantly hooked from the first sentence. I really enjoyed following Veyka's journey as she grapples with past trauma and is thrust into a position of power she was never meant to hold, all while her council, mother, and betrothed view her as an incompetent waste. The book hits all the right notes with beloved tropes like enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, found family, fated mates, and that irresistible "even look in her direction and I'll kill you" vibe. Plus, the spice in the romance is delectable, well-written, and never awkward. Arran Earthborn, much like Casteel from FBAA, is perfect book boyfriend material with his attraction to Veyka's bloodlust and ferocity.

However, I must admit that in the first half of the book, there was nothing compelling me to pick it up, and I had to remind myself to keep reading. It was only after the halfway point that the story truly grabbed my attention, and I found myself eagerly diving into it every night. Additionally, while I enjoyed the plot and setting, the main characters, Arran and Veyka, left me feeling somewhat indifferent until the last third of the book. Lastly, I wasn't a huge fan of the last chapter, as the cliffhanger felt wedged in and I believe the book would have been more well-rounded without it. Despite these minor drawbacks, Crown of Earth and Sky offers an enthralling fantasy experience for any lover of the Romantasy genre.
