What a FANTASTIC epic beginning to this amazing fantasy series. Plot, smut, polyam rep, mates AND chosen love (plus a cute danger doggo and a sassy horse) - what more could you ask for?
Heliacle Rising is the amazing first book in the Wytchling Chronicles which envelopes you in the world and setting as we follow our FMC on her journey of understanding her family, her legacy, and options in a progressive society. This book was the perfect blend of everything I want out of romantasy novel. It had tense action and fight scenes told in beautiful prose, tender sapphic moments and hotttttt smutty scenes that come to life as you read. Each character is so well built that nobody feels like a real side character, and this piece truly is full of a hilarious ensemble of characters who will make you laugh, mourn and fan yourself down from their interactions.
I have been blessed to have read this book and am very excited about continuing the series and see how the events unfold. Easy 5 stars, love it!

This is the first book I've ever picked up primarily because I enjoy the audiobook narrator's other work. I still love her work, but that was not quite enough to make me love this book. It was an interesting magic system, but generally this story felt done before in many ways. I found the climax to be a little glossed over and too pat to be satisfying.

Great worldbuilding and set up with the politics here. The magic system was interesting. But the main draw here is the characters. Every character including the side characters has a great story and dreams and goals. Amylia is a woman taken from her burning home and raised as a ward of Lord Drakon. There are tensions with neighboring kingdoms including a kingdom with Wytchlings/sylven beings like fae with strong magics. When some Sylven visit from a kingdom Drakon wants an alliance with it opens Amylias eyes to a whole new world of comraderie, magic and love. This was a great opener to the series and I can't wait to devour the next book.
