Oh I kicked my feet the whole time. Laughed every time Tadek opened his potty mouth and every time the mothers mothered; Durdona ‘tsk’ing about Evemer’s barren dating life in front of his regent, coworkers and bosscrush. Everything Eozena says and does but especially her cheek-pinching and shouting over squabbles. Zeliha being the scariest motherfucker in the book and the mushiest mummy puddle over princess baby. Even while centering two of the sweetest, dumbest boys, this book’s a girl’s girl.
Annotated to hell, pulled me out of one of the worst reading slumps ever, 10/10 can’t wait to reread.
(Laughed out loud at work at the bit on page 372 when Evemer, Tadek, Eozena and Pinar have just escaped a nasty scrape, and Tadek wants to drive the getaway boat but he's injured so Emever is like "let me" and Tadek is being stubborn so Eozena erupts, "Move your sorry ass and let him fucking row!" and Tadek's all "I'm letting him, I'm letting him!" like a chiiiiiild—scene had me sideways in my chairrrrrr.)

This book is slept on!! It's got court intrigue. It's got banter. It's got gays. It's got spice! It's got non-European mythology as a background! It's so fun and really gets you thinking and just ugh. Love it.

What happens when a prince and a guard who each take their duties of care very seriously collide. I remember Alex talking about a book she was working on about a M/M romance with a huge fealty kink. This is that book.

It took me a little bit to get into this book, but I ended up loving it. I really wish there was an epilogue, but the author does have an extra piece of fanfic on ao3 (“what spring does with the cherry trees” by Ariaste). I also haven’t read Tadek and the Princess yet, so there may be more about Kadou and Evemer in that.
