Such an impactful book, but I found I couldn’t read too much at once. I would need to take more time in between essay ‘chapters’ than I typically do in order to process and give the stories the space each deserved.

I think this is one of the best anthologies I have read, and I intend to read it again, study it, maybe one day teach it. The voices are truly diverse, and the stories here also help me with my own. I think that's what an anthology, and really telling our stories can do, and they have to be en masse, and from all different sides of the issue, with so many voices speaking out that it's overwhelming, because rape culture really is that bad. We are so aptly trained in seeing why that is in these personal essays, even if we couldn't see it before. And many of us have seen it, felt it, experienced it, and haven't had the words to describe our experience. Some of the writers in this anthology were also in that place. And many, if not all, are still processing and healing, because. . . you know, healing isn't linear, and our society doesn't provide us with the tools for that healing because of the rape culture on which this society is so snugly founded. This book of essays also says, hey, you are not alone. <--this is so damn important. We are not alone.

Oof. This book is kind of just being pummelled again and again and again with the worst things that happened in all of these people’s lives. It’s pretty intense but also strangely comforting and very important to me. I don’t really feel the need to say much more on it than that.

this book can only be described my individual words. Wow- was what I said when I finished. heavy. Moving. Emotional. Accurate. Painful. Telling. Honest.... if you pick this one up, be prepared to fall deep into your emotions.

Essential reading. Essays covering the spectrum of gender, race and experience with sexual violence. Sometimes (often) difficult reading, but as sexual violence is ubiquitous, we need to better understand all who are affected and how we can help improve and heal ourselves and each other.
