Let me first say that i adore the Merry Gentry series, and once i read K.O.S i couldn't rest until i'd read the rest of the series. I love the characters in all their sidhe glory. I'm not usually one to like the female main character but i must say that Merry does it for me. She's the most relatable female character i've ever encountered and i thoroughly enjoy the fact that she doesn't whine unless its called for. Ms Hamilton got it right with her. I also have to say that the men are...amazing. At first i thought i would have trouble relating to Merry's feelings for all the men, but i have to say that Ms Hamilton definitely got me to love them all. I thought i'd latch onto one of them, and want merry to be with only him and see the others as annoying extras, but i don't. I think it's because they all have a purpose, and you get to hear each of their stories, and you grow to love them as Merry does. One thing that i didn't particularly care for is the fact that there are so many sex scenes. Now, i'm not one to pass up a good fictional roll in the hay but when you find yourself skipping through the sex scenes so you can get to more of the story instead of the other way around...it's not so great. But over all i love the book and the series and i can't wait for the next installment.
THE BEST RH FANTASY
First RH I ever ready, and totally made me fall into the genre. Love this series! If you love smut and fantasy (and a bit of mystery) plot, you won’t regret it!

This is a book series where I like the concept a lot more than the execution. The world-building I find fascinating and curious, especially since many of the events are illegal in the real world.
It's super heteronormative erotica, know that first and foremost. I hadn't realized that myself until within the first 70 pages we expected experienced, what, six different sexual occasions? Highly sexual. We see abuse -- so much unflinching abuse -- that is oddly normalized, and a main character who spends a lot of time telling you how beautiful she is, yet how low her self-esteem is at the same time.
The writing isn't great, I'm going to tell you that now. It's creative, but there's a lot of redundant language and grammar mishaps I found distracting. The pacing of the story is off, too. I think the whole thing is what, 48 maaaaybe 72 hours? And I found myself somewhere between amused and annoyed that it took chapters for her to arrive in town, go in a limo, get dressed, meet with the queen, and arrive at a party. This took way too long.
Basically, interesting concept, rough execution. Honestly not sure why it's rated so highly on here, but people like what they like.
That being said, I'm still intrigued enough that I intend to read the next book.

Merry collects boy toys like other people collect Pokemon. Gotta catch em all!
I really enjoyed this one. The characters and the world are full of life. I'd say it's akin to the Dresden Files but with a whooooole lot more smut. Recommended for those who like urban fantasy/paranormal romance.

Kiss of Shadows is a reread for me. I read it as a new release back in 2006 (gasp) originally.
I love how the author has a natural ability to create such unique characters and worlds. I can really picture the Fae, layout, and houses. The variety of creatures is amazing.
Her sex scenes can be over the top but is expected with her writing.
I just wish that the main character was put in situations that she was having sex for fun and not because she had too.
I do like that some of the characters had history that was explained.

I gave this book a one star rating because it's not my cup of tea. It really isn't. Hamilton, however, has always been honest about what this series is, so I want to be fair.
Ugh. I gave it my best shot, got about 70 pages in and had to quit, mostly because of the fully unlikable and unrelatable protagonist. Maybe you aren't supposed to be able to relate to "fairy people", but the endless descriptions of how perfect and beautiful she is really grated on my nerves.
