Read via a car trip with the kids. Ramona Quimby Age 8 is my favorite in the series, perhaps because it was to this book as a mid that I could so easily relate. I too threw up in class in elementary and I loved to.cook a full dinner without adult help.

Unlike some books from.cbildhood, this one was still every bit as good as an adult.

Don't laugh at me, it was on my read shelf and my mom had wanted me to read it, so I did. It wasn't that bad, too easy to ready, but it reminded me of an 80's Judie B. Jones, and the story made me smile. :)

I haven't read this book since I was about age 8, but even after all these years I still adore Ramona Quimby!

March 2017: Listened to the audio (Stockard Channing! she grew on me).

April 2021: Every Ramona book is the best Ramona book! I love her.

This is such a fun, nostalgic taste of my 80's childhood. I figured it out and Ramona and I are just about the same age, assuming she was 8 when the book was published. Which means she is currently older then her parents were in the book.
This is a kid's story so minimal plot but a nice through line. I did find it to be a little dated, especially in the songs mentioned. Overall an enjoyable book.
I am sure my rating would have been higher if I rated it as a child.

Listening to this with the kids was fun. I remember reading it aloud in my class as a kid. It was fine. It’s not the top of the kids list though.

"read" this as an audiobook. Listened to it on a long car ride. Couldn't quit laughing. Loved also that it is set in Portland.

I read this book a long time ago, when I was a child.

Recently, I have reread it in my quest to build a set of books that are modest and suitable for my children.

This book passes the test with flying colors

It is all three: modest, conservative, and kosher.

There are very few details in the text that would date the book, and it is 8-year-olds acting like 8-year-olds (not like anguished middle-aged alcoholics, as are so popular for characters in children's fiction these days).

A lot of the things are also for parents, because many of the situations in the book probably resonate with our own experience of raising children.

This book is a Newberry award winner, and it is just as good as/advisable to read with "Ramona and her Father."

Verdict: Recommended highly, even at the new price. (Is not that you would need to buy a new copy, because there are millions of secondhand copies in existence owing to the popularity of this book.)

Also, the Hebrew version of this book is available.
