Like the movie, this book seems to miss the point of being an ambitious, hard-working career woman, and I wonder if Miranda and her protegee would get the same treatment as men.
Also I had no sympathy and felt no camaraderie with the poor-little-rich-ivy-league graduate who only had to work for a year to open every door imaginable for her. If your father is a doctor, you grow up in Connecticut and go to Brown, working for one of the wealthiest, talented women in the publishing industry for a year does not create enough conflict for a book.

I have lived in diverse cities most of my life and can't imagine dreaming about & celebrating moving to New York only to complain about accents and people who don't speak English, make AIDS jokes to my gay coworkers, say at one point that my roommates never eat but at another that their food smells are ruining everything I own, and otherwise just consider everyone not like me to be beneath me.
I think I like the movie better. There are some funny parts, but overall this book is kinda dull and Andy complains a lot.
