A great first book of what seems to be a promising series

Simply eye-opening.

In his forward, King states that the dark tower is not a series exactly but rather one long novel divided into eight parts, and I'm inclined to agree with him. As an introduction to the world, the characters, and what the dark tower is, this novel perfectly captures everything you need to know, and keeps you hooked despite the occasional lull.

I'll refrain from saying more. While I found this novel hugely enjoyable, it is most definitely the beginning of one long journey and I feel it best that I wait until I've seen what the rest hold before properly reviewing.

Wew! What a journey....But I am afraid it was not all happy. But let me begin my review.

It may contain some spoilers, so please thread carefully. Best is to read the book yourself, then see what others think. Else you may make an opinion based on what others say, instead of forming your own :D

To be honest, I am glad this was not the first King book I read, because, solely based on this, I would have not continued with King's works. My first ever was Pet Sematary and that was one hell of a ride. Loved it!!

This one was, in my formed opinion, bad. But not bad as a whole idea, bad as an execution.

Now, I have read it in both languages: my own and English (original) thinking that, maybe, mine was just badly translated. Boy, was I wrong!

Not sure if it is the dialect he used to write, or simply my understanding of general English language, but it was hard as heck to read. Most of the times I was SO confused, trying to understand what on Earth is going on >.>... Probably this is why I fell into the reading slump of 4 months -_-

The whole idea behind it, you can understand. Gunslinger battling himself as a whole person to chase another, ending up bonding with him and, in the end, start chasing a second for another 6 books. But hell, of course I will read them all considering I went full sail ahead into it!

But I have to say that the way he wrote it made me have a ton of questions throughout the book, most of which left unanswered.

Where is Jake? Did he kill him all of a sudden? Why the heck did he turn against him after such a journey where he kept telling himself he loved him? Did I miss the whole point trying to understand what he wrote or what scenery I was in? Well.....I have 6 more books to find out!

Now, jokes and giggles aside, I will give it another chance, hoping that the next ones will be written in an easier manner, so that all (English and non-English) can read with ease.

And yes, you will jump me and say "He is an awesome artist, you un-appreciative person!!!", with which I agree, but am I not entitled to an opinion? After all, feedback is welcomed no matter in which form, as long as it is constructive. Also, yes, I am HELL late to this party (and universe) but I really wanted to read it. And I am really looking forward to finishing the saga, in hopes that all my questions will be answered.

Thank you for the read!

P.S: I apologise to disappoint, but in this situation, the movie made more sense and I loved it far more. But it may either be a representation of ALL books, or simply a reinterpretation of the whole idea and universe. Or at least the bits that count in there.

This is a mediocre book in my opinion. But it has moments of mystery that make me want to read more of The dark tower series. I can't put my finger on it, but I have to know the truth about The tower!

Ka is a wheel. Rereading for the first time and it’s just as good as I remember it.
